Cassar's Slaanesh Terminator... in miniature

Inspired by Cassar's wonderful Slaanesh Chaos Lord I sought permission to create a version in miniature:

I began by making some casual sketches and printing out some photos as reference material:

Tonight I put together an armature for the legs, fleshed them out (loosely) and sculpted the foot wear:

Not an incredibly exciting start I know, but once cured I'll have a firm scaffold for working on the legs in the next day or so.

Ahahah, you should sculpt a marine just with legs like that, that would be awesome. ^^

yep will do, if its any help i finished off the piping at the back of the knees and claves before putting in the verticle thigh pipes leaving a wee bit extra at the top so i could play with the positioning and get the piston housings all the same length, i then put the upper thigh piping on once they were cut to lenght. oh and the upper thigh upright pipes are square to allow the serrated blades to be fixed on.

Arch, but I really have to finish that daemon bust first but I'm struggling with the LED cabling as the voltage theory does not match the practice... it's been driving me nuts since last year...

I continued work on the legs today:

...merely a little more bulking out and the 'hosing' in the leg joints.
I often find it tough to get the shapes I want for the leg armour so tend to work in a number of stages.
I'll probably tidy this up before bed and finish the legs in my next sitting.

nice start mate!
i suggest get some milliput white and mix in the greenstuff make it easier to file/sand smooth and sharp after it has cured, i believe it would be very time-efficient and makes the whole process easier.

Last bit of hijacking...
Gladly! I'll take some pics this afternoon and start a quickie wip for it... Basically I have to connect 9 UV leds to a 9V battery, logic and specifications say I should connect them in three series of three, as UV leds have a much higher voltage than normal ones but they don't burn at all... and if I take one led and hold it against the battery, it burns as normal, but it makes no sense, that thing should pop like a cracker, not burn normally...

Good progress on the legs btw...

Here's the latest:

...upper leg sections more or less complete and I've started bulking out the torso.

Although I want to stay as true to the original as possible, I may express a little creative license: I'm thinking of applying the exciting head icon to his left hand leg as the angle of the right leg may obscure it a little.

The eagle-eyed among you may notice that I've applied a little underpinning to the torso - three copper rods.

Again, I'll probably tidy this up before bed and smooth out the surfaces.

I decided that a little progress would be better than none at all:

...it is the weekend after all!

Here are the main tools that I use:

For any budding UK sculptors after a reliable source of quality green stuff (and at a decent price) try the Battle Forge (http://stores.ebay.co.uk/From-Fire-and-Flame?_trksid=p4340.l2563). I got my most recent supply from his ebay store and was relieved to receive it in good condition - I've ended up with badly kept, partly cured and hairy / dusty GS from other 'reputable' suppliers.

In other news I think I'm going to buy some large sized corks for future projects: http://www.just-cork.co.uk - it's good that you can buy various sizes individually as I wouldn't have any real use for a job lot of 100 large corks, lol.

It's surprisingly straight forward. Using the 'dreaded' GW sculpting tool: shape the overall area with the spoon end, then begin to add short parallel lines with the knife end - use a pressing motion and NOT a cutting motion - you don't want to distort the adjacent areas. Continue adding further lines, matching up to those already created til the ribbing effect is all the way around. You can repeat this process to neaten things up, then use a soft clay shaper to neaten things further.

Okay,so things are starting to get complicated:

I decided to stay true to the original. Well, until I realised that my skills weren't sufficient enough to fit the head icon to the top half of the lower leg... Once dry, I'll have to add some further layers to build up areas such as the nose.

BTW, since taking this photo I have 'tucked in' the teeth so that the foot would still be visible.
