Casting quality of Knights Models Miniatures

Just curious if anyone has any input on the casting quality of the miniatures from Knights Models, namely any of the 70mm star wars or marvel range.

I picked up a couple and they were fantastic, minimal cleaning work required, assembly was great

I had Gambit, Leia and Stormtrooper, also had 30mm Luke, his sabre was a bit tricky but otherwise good

Thanks everyone for your opinion. I read one review online, and the overall review was less than steller due to poor casting artifacts. The review also mentioned that the white metal was very soft, so I guess extra care is needed during cleanup.

I'm not a huge Star Wars fan, but the Clone Trooper is really catching my eye.

Really? Could be due to different batches? I haven't had the chance to actually prep or paint one but it looked good in my hands.

I have 7 of them (both Star Wars and Marvel), and I have to say that even though the sculpts themselves are amazing, I´m not really impressed with the quality of the casting.

There are severe moldlines, and on a few even places where the molds haven´t been properly aligned (--> the halves are "skewed").

This is on both the white metal and the resin parts.

That being said, none of the problems are insurmountable to fix, and I´m not saying "don´t buy them" (after all I bought a lot - even after seeing some of the casting problems), but be warned that you might get some that will require quite a lot of work before they look as good as they do on the pictures.

I've only got one (marvel), and the casting quality was excellent. The bits fit together, but there is a noticeable gap, but nothing that couldn't be fixed.

Sounds like they run the quality gamut.

I reallllly want to get the 30mm Darth Vader. I mean, I want him so badly it hurts but I'm not allowed to buy any more until I paint some that I have.

Take it from me, I know what you are saying...but I reeaaaaally wanted the THOR (72mm) one, but decided to wait. Now it's sold out, and I can't seem to find one anywhere. So, it may be better to err on the side of caution. Any other miniature would probably still be waiting for you once you've painted up a bunch, I don't know about these.

Damn you and your "logic." I have the same issue with the McVey stuff. I waited too long on LT Kara Black and now I can't find it anywhere. I want Ruby, now, too. Why is this hobby so expensive???

I'm moving in a month; if they're still there when I get to my new place I'll buy them.

Looks like I'll be ordering the clone trooper, since I would really kick myself if it ended up selling out.

my 30mm Han Solo had some serious mouldline issues...
damn folds in the pants and shirt!!!
seemed to be just like any other company's minis to be honest...
i seem to pick all the ones with killer mouldlines...

quality issues don't keep me from buying cool minis, but it does effect whether or not i will ever get around to painting a mini...
like many here, i have enough minis for 3 lifetimes, but i'm always happy that i own all the rare stuff...

life is short...
if you like it, get it!!!

cheers

Well i've decided to go ahead and bite the bullet. I figured that I love this mini so much, that it's worth the risk.

I had been wanting one of the 72mm storm troopers for a while. Thanks to the positive reviews in this thread I ordered the Scout Trooper on Speeder Bike on monday and it arrived today. Really great quality, couldn't be happier. (Though I was expecting it to be bigger, even though it is indeed 72 mm. The great quality and detail of the sculpt in the photos led me to believe it was bigger). I'll be buying more for sure.

I recieved my Clone Trooper last week and had the chance to assemble it over the weekend. Casting quality was IMO around an 8.5. There were a few flash lines, and quite a bt of pitting. The head and one of the arms required a lot of sanding and cutting for them to fit on properly. Even after that, i'm excited to have it built and can't wait to get started.

Well I would say that if you are really wanting a particular figure from Knights, I would go ahead and get it before it runs out. Even after all the prep that is going in to getting it ready for paint, I would be very dissapointed if I missed out and couldn't get one.
