whilst that\'s realy cool, why a petrol engine?
you can get electric motors and batteries that would fit into the same space nowadays.
i thought noise would have been an issue when it\'s being funded by the american defense department.

Most of the time on the video it looks like two blokes head to head in a suit. It is creepily lifelike maybe we could get one and teach it some dressage moves so we\'ll do better in the next Olympics.
As for the petrol engine it sounds like a swarm of killer bees. If I was an enemy soldier I\'d certainly vacate the area if I thought a swarm of killer bees was headed my way. Almost as scary as man eating badgers

There were major issues with the Abrams and the Humvee in their first configurations and there are still problems with both in the field that could have been avoided from the start. The Bradley was just a joke by the time it got fielded.

Seriously cool. As the rest said, the movements when kicked or slipping are uncanny. But hey - a couple of years on, we\'ll have our own AT-AT\'s! :flip:

Now the question is how much more effective these will be compared to mules and other traditional pack animals. This is probably a hell of a lot more expensive than a mule, does about the same thing, and still requires fuel.
That being said, this IS pretty darn cool; I really liked the way the thing recovered after being kicked.

That was positively wild. And I got to play with some of the USAF\'s newest toys. But that was way back when jets were still made of aluminum and controlled by cables and stuff.
The gas engine on Bigdog is used because there is nothing short of nuclear power that can provide a bunch of energy in a small package. Electrics, even though they are getting better and better by generation after generation, still cannot provide the same specific impulse of gasoline.
I have to get one of those things to chase my wife\'s cats around. So cool!
