Celtos for sale!

I have just read in Harbinger 19 that Urban Mammoth are to sell off the Celtos line.

They must obviously be attracting a new type of clientelle, because I would have considered Celtos to be the \'jewel in their crown\'. The Celtos sculpts are my personal favourite and I know that whilst, not everyone\'s \'cup of tea\', they were firm favourites with many others also.

They seem to have forgotton Void too, as they have introduced the new \'Urban War\' concept which uses the same factions, VASA, Veridian etc. To be honest I find it all confusing.

I just hope Celtos is bought by someone who will back it and continue to extend the range and concept of the game.

Fingers crossed???

I think the problem was that a lot of wholesalers were afraid to touch the stuff after UM got a hold of it. It seems a lot of them were \'burned\' when the former company went belly up, and refused to carry the line again when it was picked up by UM. At least that is what happened in my area. Celtos is the only stuff I can\'t get my hands on.

It\'s a real shame.

I am not a player, so I can\'t comment on the game. But (most of) the actual minis themselves were superb in every way. The castings were also amongst the best I have seen.

Perhaps that is why \'Void\' is morphing into \'Urban War\'??? new name, new start. I certainly hope so because their minis are very cool too.

Hey ho..

hmm...

Well instead of just buying up Celtos minis, why don\'t we form a corporation and just buy the whole line??

Who\'d know more about what painters will buy and collect other than more painters??

I elect Finn as CEO!!

I\'d love to...

But as I know feck all about gaming/sculpting etc, I fear it would be a disaster.

Perhaps we could all sponsor Kev White to buy it. After all, he sculpted most of the minis in the first place and has the mechanism through Hasslefree to market the product...

Hellloooo..... Kevin.....Go on....you know you want to:D:bouncy:

Unfortunatly I don\'t think painters are their bigest customers. I think gamers outnumber us :p And I haven\'t seen much gamers around here unfortunalty. Would be nice though :p

There is no \'rest\'. The minis are the thing.

I dont think that it\'s the cost that would stop Kev buying it, here\'s the score in his own words from TMP:

\"I heard this rumour too

As far as I know the guys at UM don\'t have 90% of the master moulds and have mislaid the greens I sent them last year. So apart from the rules system, artwork and printed stock, Celtos isn\'t really worth much to me.

AKAIK, The rules were under revision and as yet haven\'t been updated so they\'re out of date and need work done on them as they stand.

Without the master moulds I\'d be at a disadvantage when the time came to re-work the production moulds, and without the greens I\'d have to work on the ranges from scratch to expand them.

Also, I hear that one of the reasons for getting rid of Celtos are the legal issues between what was I-Kore and Rackham that arose when I was asked to use photocopies (that I later found to be) taken from the old Rackham catalogue to make the first of the Gaels. Legal battles are something I don\'t need right now, especially when I wouldn\'t have a leg to stand on.

And as mweaver says, I\'ve come a long way since I-Kore. Going back to Celtos may be a step in the wrong direction for Hasslefree.\"

nuff sed:D

@finn: fantastic picture that, shell coryton.....would rather live at the top of the tower than buy this stuff :)

I am going to have a \'wake\' if Celtos goes tits up

I am just a little concerned at the moment about whether to buy the Celtos minis I want to acquire, or risk it and hang on until they are in the bargain bin???

Captn: I was never sure where Coryton was...that pic was taken off the Canvey sea wall by the \'Lobster Smack\' I think..

I\'m with you finn, I really loved the celtos sculpts. The LGSs round hear only ever got a few of them and I snatched up the ones I could find. Sad to hear that the line is going away, they really were awesome sculpts.... now I have to see if I can remember where I put the ones I did buy.... wanders off muttering to self....
