Chain Miniature Painting!!! Check this out.

I have seen several things on CMON that I thought were very good ideas. I saw a \"round robin\" chain where one person paints a small part of a miniature (such as the skin, or does the base), and mails it to someone else and so on, until the miniature is complete! (Please, I am not claiming credit for this wonderful idea so don\'t get mad if you are the one who thought of this; remember, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!). Now, my idea is that once the miniature is complete, it will be sold on EBAY and all profit will be donated to CoolMiniOrNot to help support this wonderful site! That way, we can all have fun, produce a fantastic mini, and make some money for CMON.
If you would like to participate, either send me a private message or post your reply. I have not decided on a miniature yet, so if you have any ideas, feel free to state them. It should be one that has many parts so that way, many people can participate. Once around 10 people have signed up to participate, we will devide up the mini based on what areas each person is strong in (ie. skin, basing, NMM, blending, etc.). Please don\'t hesitate to add something to this painting chain because it should only take a small amount of your time and postage should be less than a dollar, and it will be so much fun. We will post pictures to let everyone know how it is coming along.

Hmmmm I think there are currently 4 minis floating around doing pretty much the same thing - 2 orcs, a dwarf and a female warrior.... I suspect the people who are likely to get involved are already on the list for one of these...

@james9487 : what country do you live in? Once you\'ve got your list of 10 people, geography will be key to the order of painting.

I\'ll give it a go! I can provide a nice scenic base too (Could even knock up a nice plinth at work....) Sounds like a very good idea to flog the final piece on ebay. I\'ve got access to a laser cutter and etcher, so the base could be signed by everyone too!

GW or Rackham have my preference.

If we\'re going to be 10 on it, I might suggest at least à 28mm human size mini. Hum ... what about a vehicle? Haven\'t seen any done in a chain yet. Bragon and Allan with some friends are doing a giant. A vehicle would have the convenience of allowing the different parts being painted simultaneously by different painters. Anyways, it\'s just an idea.

Alright. We have seven people who are interested (including me). Here is the list of people and their location:

Let\'s decide on a miniature to paint. As for the vehicle, size does matter in this because of shipping costs, but if that is what everyone would like, sure. I like the idea of painting a Rackham miniature as I\'ve heard they are high quality. What do you guys think? Also, how about a miniature small enough to mount on an old paint pot semi-permanently so that when each person unpacks the miniature, we have something to grab; the mini is going to be handled a lot so we are going to want to avoid touching painted areas as much as possible.

Sounds good so far! Rackham mini would be good - personal faves are Dirz and Griffins, but most of their stuff is cool

I would like to point out that if we do this internationally (especially across seas), we would likely spend more on shipping than we would make from selling the mini. If we found a way to get around this, I would be in on it.

I can do anything with a decent quality (sorry I have nothing on the site at the moment- I don\'t really have a camera). I excel at faces and skin, but the only notable weakness I have is painting broad areas of no texture (vehicles, smooth helmets [like the ones on the old eldar models], etc.).

OK for a Rackham mini, but a big one then; i\'d be kind of disapointed to just paint a coat button or something of the sort .

Dirz is cool for skin, lighting, and liquid effects. Griffins have some pretty neat champions.

Conversion is a good idea, If I remeber you\'re quit a good converter As for the mini I like the idea of a griffin but we\'d need a mini with a lot of different parts, because otherwise we\'d have like 4 people painting each a bit of the armour wich would break the unity of the mini.
One of the 2 gob trolls might be an interesting mini to do, they have plenty of stuff on them and are pretty big.

The trolls are pretty cool. The minotaurs also. With minis of that size, there could be a neat base. At least enough work for one or two persons.

Oops, sorry james9487, didn\'t quite read your post right. It\'s your project, I\'ll follow your choice on the mini. I guess I got too caught up by the idea .

By the way, what\'s your concern with manipulating the mini? I use Citadel paints and they hold up manipulation enough. Do other paints need more precautions? In fact, this brings me to another question. Depending on the mini, we\'ll have to figure out if it\'s in different parts whether or not it\'ll be pinned, glued, and eventually based before painting it.

My tuppence worth

I think the size of the mini is important to give everyone a chance to do something that can be seen, I think the Rackhams human size figures can be very fiddly so something along the lines of a mounted figure as already suggested or a centaur or even something like a Kelt Minotaur would be ideal.
If we go down the GW road then the Inquisitor range offers enough choice and the minis are sufficiently detailed for everyone to get a fair crack of the whip so to speak. Oh and yes I am in the UK.
