Some work on a chaos marauder:

I've converted the arms to be raised a bit higher.

The base:
second real attempt with water effects, I think it came out pretty good.

well to begin with the base is awesome! :)
something with the maruader looks kinda strange tho, the anatomy seems wrong in some places. like the arm with the axe, looks like it begin too far out from the body.

I guess I lied about having more pictures yesterday. Here's more progress:
I've highlighted the skin a bit and added in some various washes of purple blue and red. I've also blocked out areas that I want to do some silver NMM on with grey. The pictures I took of those areas will be good reference for the NMM I believe.

^ this picture I believe to be the best representation of what it looks like in real life.

^blurry I know.. but I'll still use it for reference.

The muscles on the right arm look really weird for some reason. Maybe it's the camera angle, or the muscle placement is a bit... off. Sorry if it sounds like I'm nitpicking, I studied human anatomy a little in college, and that's why I noticed this on the right arm. :)

I do like what you did for the base though. Do you have any WIP photos of that too? :)

Yup, muscles on he right arm are definitely off. I dont have wip pictures of the base but it consisted of me sticking a piece of balsa on the base, cutting a hole where the balsa wasn't, putting sand on the base, primering it, painting it, gluing flock and little bushes on it, then putting a piece of clear card on the bottom, sealing it and pouring the resin!! Oh and a sculpted a couple mushrooms.

agreed but he also seems to have dislocated his left shoulder too. every time i see someone with one that shape they are usually rugby players looking very uncomfortable...

The left arm thing is fixed by the fact that theres a big shoulder pad thing going over that part. Also, I might be able to fix the right arm with a little green stuff. What should it look like? I couldn't find any reference pictures that worked.

The right arm's bicep needs to be bigger and stick out more. Right now it's concave at the spot where it meets the shoulder muscle. The tricep muscle can be toned down a bit and there's a strip of muscle that runs from the inside of the shoulder muscle down to the tricep that shouldn't be there at all. Check out some photos of bodybuilders. Their muscle definition is over emphasized but will give you a good idea on where muscles are placed.

Also, I noticed your water on the base seems to be shrunk quite a bit. Are you using GW or Woodland Scenics water effects? I've been using that stuff recently and personally I find it's horrible given the amount of shrinkage that goes on when drying. You can try to add another layer to see if you can reduce some of the concavity of the surface.

I do not mean this to be a criticism of your work, but I have to say that this thread proves that a bad sculpt or incorrect anatomy will always be noticed and detract from the finished product, no matter how good of a painter one may be.

Naw, it didn't shrink actually, it just looks that way in the pictures. I'm using envirotex lite clear resin.

Yup! Totally true! I was going to ignore it, but now I'm going to see what I can do to fix it. hopefully it will come out ok in the end. As I said though, I've got midterms coming up so I'll be back with more updates in about a week and a half or so. At that point, I will attempt to resculpt the arms a bit. I have to be honest though, I'm just not that good a sculpor.

You don't really need to sculpt much to make the arm look better, just remove some of the 'extra' space between the chest and shoulder. So, basically you just need to cut away about two mm in between the shoulder and chest. Make it look kinda like this:

Chrome's showing off his mad photo-chopping skillz!

If you reproduce what's in that pic you'll have a great mini.

: This mini would be perfect with that arm the way it is if you had a giant grabbing him by the arm or something... it would look so cool!
