I have my own ideas, but I thought I would ask around. What do you believe should or shouldn\'t be in a Norse warband using the new chaos rules????
I\'m trying to stick as close to a historical viking type army as possible.
thanks

(bangs head repeatedly on desk)......

EEEERGHH!!!! Norscans are not Chaos worhipping mauraders!! It seems GW has turned their back on my people.. the only mention of them was in bloodbowl, and that was it.

And another thing: VIKINGS DON\"T WEAR HORNED HELMETS!!!!!!!!!

This has to be the biggest myth perpetrated by those dang Saxons.. in truth the only barabarians that did this were the Danes and Germans.. true \'Viking\' Helms look more like the ne basic dwarf helmet.. A metal cap with a slight bullet shape and nosegaurd, sometimes ornate and wrapped around the eyes also, like this:

Well, excuse my rudeness, but it gets to me. A while ago, I had an idea for and Empire army.. I would use Fagellents as Berserks, use horsearchers and such.. I didn\'t think it could work because it would be devoid of firepower... However, my background was going to be that Norscans interbreeded with Dwarfs a long time ago, which is where they got their stubborness and sense of honor. Didn\'t think the GW guys would like it but then again, as this area is so gray, any other background would be okay.

GW is making my ancestors roll over in their graves in the homeland..... (North Dakota?) :p

Oh, yeah and besides the Native Americans, we discovered the New World first. It\'s called \"Eriksson\'s Day\" in my family.. :D

There are a set of rules under the GW moniker called Warhammer Ancient Battles. They have a whole segment dedicated to Vikings and other Dark Age armies - and best of all they are all written in WFB stats so no need to convert. No magic though - strictly historical.
They are wildly popular amongst the Ancient/Medieval crowd, but if you have trouble finding them online let me know . . .

oh, there was a thing on NPR the other day that credited the Chinese with discovering the New World . . . Everytime I think I\'ve heard everything, I\'ve heard everything.

Actually, I saw on the history chanel that some oldest dated skeletons in North America have European features in their bones, not asian or native american.. Scientists have no explanation, they just think it\'s cool... :p

Oh, and using Viking mythology is a must, even though somethings dont fit (I was going to use Odin\'s eight-footed steed Sleipnir as a normal ole pegasus.. \'coarse, he would have more attacks..) But some things DO fit (Historically, king Halfdan used Berserks as shock troops).

Also, I think the old Amber wizard would make a fitting Shamen or runekeeper.. but in reality, a woman (witch, hag, sorceress, whatever) was the source of magic.

Also, on inspection you might make a Loki themed army.. perhaps Loki the trickster is actuall Tzeentch? BUt the other gods and things associated with Norse myths place emphasis on destroying monsters and heroic deeds, which do not fit Chaos, full of monsters and villians.

Interesting ideas...
I actually saw the Chaos army, especially the newer stuff, more akin to the old He-Man cartoon and the Conan movies. The Marauders really look like Conan extras (especially in the opening sequence to Conan the Barbarian, with the scattering of the Cimmerians). But that\'s just me. I could easily see a unit led by Man-at-Arms from He-Man... and maybe one led by Mecha-neck. LOL
