Check in from Ivan

Alright, I felt the care and worry the last two times around, so I have to spread the prayers.

Everybody checked in from Ivan?

I think Grumb is still in transit from England.

fine up here

Right now north Georgia is ok. Our wind is starting to pick up and it\'s already begun to rain. It is supposed to drop anywhere from 6 to 10 inches on us, depending on how north and how west you are in the state. The east side of Atlanta will probably get 4 to 6 inches. North Georgia is actually supposed to get it pretty bad, according to the last weather report I heard.

I haven\'t heard of what damages Alabama has suffered yet.

tropical storm

Last I heard she was a tropical storm. And yes, she is threatening the southern states, especially Florida.

Sadly, I read an article yesterday on the south\'s Hurricane season. It seems that this IS the norm for our area. Apparently there is some evidence that the south eastern United States, Florida in particular, should have between 6 and 10 hurricanes a year.

According to the article I read, the last 40 years has seen a \"lull\" in activity, so this recent activity is not a surge, or \"worsening.\" This, apparently, is the our regular weather. If this proves true I hate it for anyone trying to get homeowner\'s insurance in Florida. It\'s bad enough that no one offers flood insurance.

rain, tornado warnings, typical

Right now it is raining so hard you cannot see accross the parking lot, which is only about 100 yards. On top of that there is a tornado warning in effect. This is always a pleasant thing to have looming over your day.

Well, yeah, but it\'s *France*. That\'s bad enough.

(kidding...stay frosty)
;)

ATM, things here aren\'t too bad. The rain is pretty heavy and the wind is up, but it\'s not anything necessarily more dreadful than usual summer storms.

Barkel I think will get it worse than I will, from the latest projections. And since Grumb lives in Atlanta IIRC I hope his place is still there when he gets back.

Not so bad.

We probably got 4 inches last night. My yard flooded, but my house stayed dry. And as I was getting ready to clean the dinner dishes the lights went out. They did not come back on until we were all asleep.

Ivan, which is barely still a tropical depression, is supposed to go up through Tennessee, to South Carolina, and then back down to Georgia again. Rotten Nuts! The rain from it will be gone just in time for Jeanne to hit.

ps. But in the grander scheme of things, we are lucky. A little rain and power outages are nothing. Around 20 people died yesterday. Many more lost homes. There but for the grace of God...

Yea, we finally had a weekend without a hurricane - and had electriciy all weekend. Got to paint and do my painting class at the FLGS. :D:cool:

I am concerned for our AL & GA peps though. Even after it left the coast, they got lots of rain.
