Chicago GD WIPs

Hey everyone on CMoN! I\'ve been a long time lurker on the site but never really got the cajones to post anything up. I\'m working on entries for the Chicago Demons and would appreciate any C&C you might have.

My biggest entry at this point is going to be my FW Warhound Titan. I wanted to paint it in the style of a WWII figher/bomber with military green as the primary color with kill markings/nose art, etc.

First pic is of the \"appropriately sized gaming base\":

Second would be the WWII nose art for the titan. It\'s supposed to be from the Legio Ignatum (fire wasps) but I thought I\'d swap the bright red for the military green I mentioned before:

Thanks in advance everyone!

You better start working on those cajones! Most people here will never even come close to what you have there! Start posting to teach and inspire us.
What I have seen this far should be a crime not to post!
Now, where\'s the rest? *loads gun*

[EDIT]Oh, and welcome to the forums! :D [/EDIT]

Well, since you decided to start packing heat, I better update fairly frequently. Gunshot wounds might slow down the process a tick. Apologies for no close ups or steady cam work as I\'m usually working on this thing around midnight and I never feel quite up to setting up a light box. First off is my current WIP piece, the body:

The shoulder closest to the camera is about halfway done. After that, it\'s the engine block followed by the rest of the central body. Then I\'ll attach the carapace and finishe the side armor. Speaking of attachments:

Here\'s the current box of \"painted junk waiting to be glued onto the rest of the titan\" bitz. Both weapon arms are ready to rock along with the leg armor, carapace, and crew members (in case I decide to finalize the bridge after Games Day). Thanks for the support so far. Any constructive criticism would be very welcome. Hit me with the mean stick, it\'s the only way I\'ll improve!

That\'s really, really, really, beautiful. And I mean it. I hope you don\'t \"damage\" it too much, or \"muddy\" it. A well cared for machine can be a thing of beauty!

Wow, that looks awesome dude. My only advice would be to tone down the blue on the plasma cannons, they look way over saturated at the moment. Hilighting up to white or moving away from Enchanted Blue towards something like Trollblood Base or even Hawk Turquoise might keep the colors in check a bit more.

Can\'t wait to see this thing finished, the army green with the bright chevrons and freehand work is a very rad combo.

Can\'t do much but stare in awe and agree with Jericho here, the blue does look a bit flat compared to the rest. Now I am pretty sure thats just the camera not being friendly but still, an extreme highlight and/or perhaps even darkening it a tad bit further?

I agree with you guys, the plasma coils are my least favorite bit so far. It definitely deserves a re-look and some additional highlights. I did about 3-4 layers on there but the camera seems to wash it out. Despite that, I definitely think I could use a few more. updates to follow once I\'m done with the whole \"at work\" thing.

thats stuning. seriously. there is however oen thing i have a problem with. the battle damage. it sems below the standard of the rest of the peice, as its fairly clear that you seem to have blocked out the shapes with black and then blotgun metaled them.you need to do sharp highlights on the edge of the peice to create a sense of depth. id also add some rust to the chips, maybe with sscab red, scorched brown and dark flesh

I agree as well hestan, the deep gouges seem to pop too much with the black outline. Instead of pure black I was thinking I might take a bit of chaos black and mix it with the armor basecoat of catachan green to get the darker areas and then dumb down the metal (which was mithril silver) with some kind of wash. thoughts?

The base and the nose art are my two favorite part of this mini. The battle damage is pretty good to but I second GoffRokkas idea.

Maybe you could add a couple shades of grey to the scorched paintwork? As far as I can tell there is only black there.

You might have done this but it\'s not visible on the pictures but if you apply blobs or streaks of PVA glue it will give the effect of the paintwork being blistered :)

Small Update

Hey all, still plunking away on the titan. Unannounced family from out of town stole some much needed painting time these past few days. Hopefully an update will follow within the next day or so with progress. In the meantime, I do have one pic of one of my other entries. This bad boy is how I picked out my namesake and is definitely the most extensive conversion I\'ve done so far. Here is the Goff Rokka!

[[EDIT]] and yes, the knob on the shoulder amplifier does go to 11.

Re-entry?

Crazy,

Yep it\'s the same miniature I entered several years ago. After I saw Dylan win at Baltimore this year with several entries I saw in Chicago the same year as the Rokka I figured \"what the hell\". I\'ve done some touch-ups since then as my skill has leveled up a few times since 2007.

Once I\'m back from work I should have a decent update on the Titan. Cheers!

finally, an update!

Hey all!

Sorry about the late update but I\'ve been held up at work with some crazy hours. I\'ve worked 21 hours out of the last 36 and I finally got some quality time with the titan. Most of the body is complete (at least enough to attach the carapace and get a better overall look at the Warhound. All I need on the body section is to add the nicks and scratches on the green section of the body proper and then it\'s off to the races on the shoulder sections. I also have a few touch up points on the trim where the silver either hasn\'t been painted yet or needs a touch up before sealing. As always, C&C are very much encouraged. Thanks again all!
