Chick Challenge down

Hi All,

Thought I\'d offer some explanation as to why you\'ve not been able to get to the Chick Challenge. It seems the CC has grown too big for its britches. Eager viewers far exceeded theWarp.net\'s bandwidth and, consequently, the server administrator moved it to somewhere in Internet purgatory. He then sent a letter of explanation to the administrator of theWarp.net, which hosts my site.

Having communicated with this poor guy (who had set this week aside to study for final exams) a couple of times now, the impression I\'ve gained is that throwing some money at the problem should get the CC back up again. I have no problem with this solution as I\'ve been leeching off theWarp.net for five years now and have presumably only given them once-per-year headaches of this nature.

Assuming I understand the problem and solution correctly, and having communicated my willingess to pay some money, I hope that the CC will be back up again very soon. I will then extend the voting deadline by a couple of days.

My apologies to all of you who waited so long only to have it yanked after two days of voting. Hopefully your frothing-at-the-mouth impatience has been somewhat whetted. In fact, I\'m more than a little proud of our Chick Challenge. It busted theWarp.net! I never would have guessed that would be possible.

Thanks for the info, Jason, maybe we should kick the idea of an entry fee around. Maybe 50 cents per entry, any others want to comment.

Anything that discourages anyone from entering should be avoided.

Regarding the money: The sales of the minis have been going well enough to cover it. I think the minis broke even about a week ago. Extra funds had been guided towards the costs of sending out prizes, but this is just as good a use for the money. I don\'t think I\'ll need to pay anything out of my own pocket. Thanks to everyone who\'s bought a mini!

I don\'t believe in entry fees. The CC has always been about accessibility. One does not need to have money or be an accomplished painter to take part. I like this idea. Even the cost of the CC minis is guided by this principle of accessibility.

The site is back up by the way.

You must think you are really something huh? Do you realise Jason does this contest for everyone except himself? Money and tons of time out of his pocket?

I hope you can learn some manners and decency along the road to stardom. I gotta tell you, it was your own short-sightedness posting the same figure for two events (knowing full-well they would post your step by step to promote their product) that got it pulled. You can stamp your feet and cry all you want.

You can still make $500 on ebay and you can have your precious cmon score and rank. I tell you what though... no one gives a fuck.

With your attitude you will never be welcome in my own lame contest. I am sure it\'s lame since there are no stupid plastic trophies, or stupid swords or shields...
