Simple solution, which other people have already mentioned. If you don\'t want to see lower scored minis, browse the gallery, set for only the higher ratings.

As for the dropping of inactive members, what of those members who have only posted a couple of pics, like Drodo for instance, but whose work is of an amazing quality? Where do you draw the line?

I like looking at great mini\'s, to help me w/ my own painting skills. I like looking at crappy mini\'s, because it makes me feel warm and fuzzy and good about myself! The site will not explode. If it aint broke, don\'t fix it.

Do not delete me, please

My son is 6 and I\'ve posted his first mini. Its score is 4 (and it\'s worth 3) and he\'s very happy to look at it from time to time. Does he deserve to see his mini deleted? Has he not as much right as anybody to show his work? Some of my minis are around 5 and I\'m still proud of them, they show how much I\'ve progressed this past year. I would hate it if they were deleted as \'unworthy\', after all they are me and if you delete them, you might as well delete all I\'ve done. OK, it might not be such a great loss.

I would understand tidying up old minis from people who do not post regularly if server space becomes an issue, but certainly not keeping only the \'elite\' minis. This would be a great loss in diversity and conviviality. Another way to bring down the size of storage would be to limit the number of minis you can post to 20 for non-subscribers. Everybody could still showcase their work, but you would need to show commitment if you want to be prolific.

If you want, you can browse only the good minis with the score filter, or you can set up the \'OnlyCoolMinis.com\' site as an alternative to CoolMiniOrNot. A positive point about that site is that you won\'t see me there.

Man, talk about a thread taking a life of its own.

Kat et al, I dont have a problem with looking at the lower scored minis - hell, my own work is in the 4-5 point range, and I\'ve only got 4 mini\'s posted. Personally, I dont have an issue with anyone posting here, unless they start making demands that cannot be met and are not reasonable about dealing with the other members of the community - by and large the folks I have met here have been reasonable and pleasant and tend to take criticism well, and are genuinely interested in helping each other out, while the few toads that have popped up have been squashed by the moderators and the members on the forums.

As to the issue of folks who pop up on the site, post a few mini\'s or raise a stink on the forums and disappear - give them a period of time be it 6 months or a year after they are last active and then they go away as if by magic - if they are not willing to put the time in on the site or if they flash in the pan and disappear, why should they get the right to continue on the site? Sure, this may be a little elitest - after all, it requires that you be an active member of the site and communinty, not just post and run. And, I am not talking about eliminating folks who post pictures and do not show on the forums or who are active posting freaks on the forums with no minis on the site - all I am talking about is eliminating pictures posted by people who have not been active for whatever period of time CA decides is best - and after all, it is his descision to make. If he is happy with the way things are running, then by all means make no changes. If he is not, then we can make all the suggestions we want, but in the end CA will have the final word on what is done on the site.

How about simply limiting the pics a person can post?

Non-members can post say, 12 images, members 36. (Just random numbers).

This would encourage people to: a) join up and contribute to the running of the site and b) perform basic \'housekeeping\' ie they would have to remove older, lower-scoring figures before posting their latest gem.

In addition perhaps the top \'X\' artists could have special posting privileges ie I would not like to see their work limited in any way.

I don\'t think this is elitest. I believe this would encourage people join up and take responsibility for their own little area of the site.

So much to talk about on this thread! LOL even with ignoring the whole chocolate lesbian thing...

I love to look at all the minis-the low scores as well as the high scoring ones. You can learn so much from all of them! I also like to see what other people have done with mini\'s I\'m working on. I like to see what worked and what didn\'t and maybe save myself some time and learn something new. UNFORTUNATELY some people post their minis with the title of \"Another Mini.\" That is just no help to me. It means I won\'t find it under the figure name and if it\'s been seriously converted I won\'t find out what it is on the manufactuer site. Unless they come up randomly when I log on I don\'t look at them /shrug

I\'m new to the site and as such have not voted much-I still have so much to learn that I haven\'t felt qualified to vote yet. Also I wanted to have an example of my own work up (which I do finally!) for people to see so they could gauge my level of expertise and know how much weight to give my comments/votes. So I very much agree with the GW beardiness rants. It takes so much courage to do something creative-to put something of yourself into something-and then put it out there for others to see. Everyone should be respectful of that everytime they vote.

Oh yeah! I love when people comment on their minis! I learn so much from the artists comments.

Welcome aboard Whyspyr - I think you\'ll find by and large that most folks on the site are respectfull of the work done by others - its just one or two that seem to stand out in the rude category.

Instead of pointing out mistakes made by new people, we bitch about the \"problems with newbies\". There\'s been grumbles about there being to many 5 & 6 quality minis posted, as if this was some kind of crime or at least an affront to our sensibilities. I could go on, but I think you get my drift.

I agree with this to a point, which leads me to what really gets me on this site.

Speaking as a newby, I hate it when people will post a comment that is either none helpfull or just plain spiteful to the 5 and 6 minis.

I also take special offence to posters on the forums who constantly bash newbies.

You will actually see this kind of behaviour more on the site than the actual forum, on the forum are a lot of regulars that, even though they don\'t really paint that well sometimes, do try to help a newbie.

On the site however are a lot more people, people who will be pissed their prize-winning mini from the local contest scores a 5.5 and they start to bash people that have commented on it.

Like the quote from the \"Jay and Silent Bob strike back\" movie:
\"The Internet is a communication device that allows people the world over to bitch about one another and share pornography - Holden\"

And I do the most \"bitching\" was about the fact people refuse to name their mini\'s, post a way too blurry picture and then say: sorry it\'s a bad picture. Because of that they get a bad score, and say the voting isn\'t fair.
Chrispy\'s \"common problems with newbies\" - post seems rather like bashing, but when you read it it is actually very handy to avoid falling in the same mistakes people keep making.

Maybe that\'s an idea for adding to the guide-lines or as an article. A beginners guide to CMON and it\'s forums

God am i paranoid or do I think people are talking about me?

One mini posted (not \"another mini\" however) about three four months ago, a rush of postings followed by relative incactivity. - Chuck him out I say!

Peoples cicumstances are subject to change and priorities shift - can\'t spend much time here as I might like but I still pop in to see whats happening and to check on the voting on my one and only (last time I looked it was down to 6.7).

I don\'t vote and rarely make comments now but would echo what another poster said - If it aint broke dont fix it!

As an aside I noticed that if we followed Finn\'s posting versus mini pics idea he owes us about 100 pictures!lol

Sorry this is not a dig at Finn but a comment on how impractical it is to set rules to limit pics on what was set up as an open site.

No offense finn, but IMO this is a terrible idea. I have 50 minis posted already, and choosing which ones to remove would be like pulling teeth since I\'m proud of them all - even the more poorly-painted ones! Server space is dirt cheap, and there is already 100 pic limit for all users which helps prevent things like entire armies being posted one by one. I don\'t think the number of minis is the problem, it\'s the \"orphan\" posts and untitled posts which drive some of us crazy. Maybe CA could implement a feature whereby \"Another mini\" is not an allowed title, so people would be forced to name them.

I did say the numbers were just random, they could of course be much bigger than this, and perhaps a persons access could increase over time. I just had in mind the person who takes an interest for a week and posts individual wips of his whole SM army for our enjoyment
