If I could I would bring SOB\'s like this back just for the satisfaction of killing them again. Imagine the fear and confusion a 7 year old would feel for his father to do this.

I couldn\'t care less how entertaining this shithead was. It makes me want to puke to think about it.

one article mentioned a previous filing of divorce on the grounds of abuse.

Sounds like the something was way wrong in the family picture.

A least he wasn\'t as evil as Hamilton Fish. Something I bumped into while surfing wikipedia in IT today, and I still feel quite sick to the stomach.

I\'m singing from the same songsheet as Drevilmonkey on this one. I just can\'t contemplate how someone could do that to their own child.

I can\'t comprehend how anyone hurts a child ever! Thier own or not.

Well... I think the point is that no one \"in their right mind\" would suffocate their own child. Whether it was steroid-induced psychosis or severe depression with psychosis is anyone\'s best guess at this point, but I doubt this guy was thinking rationally.

What creeps me out are the honor killings that go on in certain faiths. If your child does something you feel is unacceptable, you are justified in killing them yourself or having someone else do it. Ugh!

@T - you\'re letting cultural bias creep in - there are several cultures where killing your own children is seen as ok, honor killings aside.

Reports have been slowly surfacing over the last couple of days that Daniel was suffering from a condition called Fragile X, which I had never heard of before.

There is speculation (and only that) that there was some sort of confrontation between Chris and Nancy about Daniel\'s care, which resulted in Chris killing Nancy; then killing Daniel as a result of his being a special needs child who would soon be without a caretaker.

Take that for what you will.

@steelcult - You are absolutely right about my cultural bias. I recognize that such killings are acceptable in certain cultures, but I still find it hard to imagine. Sort of like I would find cannibalism hard to stomach (pun definitely intended), yet it is acceptable in certain cultures.

As far as deranged folks killing their own kids, it happens more often than we would like to admit. Remember that lady from Texas who drowned all her kids in the bathtub? My recollection is that she was convinced it was the only way to save them from Satanic influence. Talk about taking religion a bit too far!

The bible says that its perfectly acceptable to kill children, even your own...

Yes, but the belief that it is wrong, coupled with a lack of understanding of how anyone could do it is a very cultural thing. In the west we hold children as a special gift - not all cultures do.

Edit -

And most of your examples are old testament - according to the church I grew up in God kinda mellowed after he sent his son to earth.

Religion and the whole concept of \"honour\" are to blame for making people think there\'s something worse than death. I\'m not talking \"would you sacrifice yourself to save another\", I\'m talking \"we will burn this witch to save her soul\" (because being damned is worse than burning alive) or \"my sister was raped, now she must die\" (because being a rape survivor is worse than being stabbed to death by your own brother). In both cases, people are fooling themselves into thinking that killing another person is actually a way of helping them. Which is about as fucked up as it gets.

(though I admit that middle-eastern style honour killing is not about the woman\'s honour, but that of her family, whose reproductive chattel she is seen as being. Either way it\'s barbaric, as all Muslims and arabs I\'ve ever known would agree)

Personal Experience

20 years ago, a family friend in the midst of a divorce and deep untreated depression killed himself
and his two children while the wife was away cooling out.
Shot each child twice, then himself. One of the children was a special needs child.
He left a perfectly coherent note explaining that his children couldn\'t live in this world without him.
Horrifying stuff. The wife was an unconsolable mess and moved away.

My point is that people can wind up in very deep, very dark holes that they don\'t think they can EVER get out of.
Once they are there, the way they see the world can be really screwed up.
Its not really hard to imagine things going very bad very quickly in this type of situation.

Probably no one will ever know what was really going on in Benoit\'s head.
A merciful god will welcome the innocents and console the survivors.
He will also make sense of Benoit\'s actions in his own way.
That\'s all one can expect or hope for.

Not selling my faith....just giving my spin...having seen this ugliness before....

True enough, I think his popularity ratings soared after he let his son take over the PR for the family firm. :]

But you just jumped back into the cultural bias role.Just because it doesn\'t fit our idea of honour doesn\'t mean it is \"honour\".
And to say its religion\'s fault is is silly too. No one burns witches anymore anyway. ;)
Maybe there is something worse than death. Just because someone doesn\'t believe it doesn\'t mean it isn\'t happening.
I never considered death a bad thing. It is apart of the cycle of life.
Sure you know some people who agree with you. But there are those who still hold it with respect. So someone is keeping it going.

It has been my experience (and my tactic lol) to agree with some people just so they would leave me alone. lol

Yeah, the old testament God was kinda out of control...

In the same Vein \"God\" was always a \"Do as I say, not as I do\" entity /sigh.

This whole affair is just wrong period. Leaving your wife and kid dead for 2 whole days before killing yourself smacks of pure malice to me.
