Christmas Songs

Well, continuing the Christmassy theme that\'s been arising, just thought some of us might like to discuss our views on Christmas songs. It seems to me that despite Christmas hitting the shops in August as usual this year, the radio has been holding back on the Christmas music until quite late.

Anyway for me, favourite Xmas Song is Pogues/Kirsty McColl\'s Fairytale of New York. Most annoying is probably Cliff\'s Mistletoe and Wine or anything played by the Salvation Army band in the middle of a shop!

Christmas music annoys the hell outta me, why can\'t shops just play normal music? But the Pogues Fairytale is an excellent one!

*EDIT* And christmas films, Ggggrrrr

Laura \"We should go and see a christmas film\"
Me \"Why\"
\"Because its christmas\"
\"And\"

and... you\'ve obviously done something wrong. Only decent Xmas films were the first two Die Hards and Nightmare Before Christmas.

I always have a soft spot for the original Miracle on 34th Street.

I\'m into the older Christmas music.
I like Gaudete best probably, but Personent Hodie is good too.

I\'ve always been partial to Greensleves, though why it became a Chirstmas song I don\'t know.

Carol of the Bells as well.

O\'Come Ye Merry Gentalmen, but sung to the C\'thulhu hymnal verses.

Favorite Christmas songs:

I Hate Christmas - Ren & Stimpy (well, only Ren sings it)
The Twelve Days Of Christmas - The McKenzie Brothers

Sorry, but I\'m just not much into Christmas. I could launch into my usual tirade about Christmas, Christmas spirit, blah, blah, blah. I\'ll spare you all.

This time.

I hate Christmas songs and I hate Christmas films (Nightmare before Christmas excluded because it\'s not a Christmas film... it\'s a Tim Burton film... that has precedence! :D). I avoid listening to the radio and I avoid shopping malls during this time of year!

In fact, I\'ve come to hate most things about Christmas...

Methinks its time for a visit from the Spirits of Christmas ala Scrooge!

I think THE CHRISTMAS STORY is my favorite christmas film ever...

and the \"Wizards of Winter\" is my favorite Christmas song by the Transiberian Orchestra...

Im with Vike here, I fell in love with TSO last year! Great music! My kids like the DVD that came with the boxed set my hubby got.

My favorite Christmas song, the little drummer boy, favorite version,, a duet with Bing Crosby and David Bowie you just have to edit the first minute and a half while they chat!

I love Christmas, it is my second favorite holiday next to halloween.

So Smile, drink some egg nog :|~ put on a chiristmas song, wrap some presents and spend time with those you love because thats what is most important being with those you love and love you. be it at home, at the pub or even here on Cmon. So to all you Scrooges... Merry Christmas! :p

@ Gin - good shout with Little Drummer Boy - one of the more bizarre but ultimately perfect colaborations for a Christmas song (alongside Mel Smith and Kim Wylde\'s Rockin\' Around The Christmas Tree)

But, I\'m not a cheap, grumpy ol\' miser! :D I just don\'t like what Christmas has become...

Funny, it\'s almost like the more comercialised and spending-focused Christmas becomes the more sentimental and preaching the Christmas films become. :]

i try and keep the celtic spirit alive by drinking more when i can afford it.

with or without the drink, it\'s seeing friends and family that i don\'t get to see throughtout the year that i like about christmas.

oh, and drunken slappers :D

Having worked in retail during the Christmas period there are very few Christmas tunes I can put up with now. Little Drummer Boy with Crosby and Bowie is absolute class though. Almost as good as this stroke of genius from Bowie!

Christmas films, well it\'s gotta be It\'s a Wonderful Life hasn\'t it?

Might do the obligatory Christmas Movie for brain dead over fed afternoons when we can\'t find the remote = Jason and The Argonauts (Ray Harryhausen version)

Absolutley, postively will not do \"Sound of Music, Oliver, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Mary Poppins, or Bednobs and Broomsticks\"

The movie HAS to be \"Its a Wondeful Life\"
Christmas music isn\'t bad, but (also having spent many years in retail) I only like it in small doses like no earlier than the week before Christmas. Trans Siberian Orchestra is about as good as it gets for \"contemporary\" holiday music.

@DR - I have a slightly different version of one of those \"classics\" you named that you might prefer. It\'s a wonderful opus called \"Titty Titty Gang Bang\" :D ;) I believe it was filmed in at Motel 6 just outside of Newark.
