Hi to all painters and hobbyist!


Was thinking of investing in the GW 'Eavy Metal Edge Paint Pods, but was wondering what you mates think about such.

I think it's a must for a final highlight, but I'm still mastering highlights so I would like to read some hand one experiences from you esteemed painters out there who used it and experienced its result at first hand.

So, what do you say and think about the 'Eavy Metal Edge Paints from GW? :smile:

I've picked up and tried at least one of each of the new GW types of paint. None of them are a let down. That's not to say it's worth replacing other paints in our collections with them, but that ain't bad.

The Edge paints I have is a purple. It appears to go well with the progression of their Base, and two Layer Purples.
The amount of pigment and the consistency is one par with their Layer range, and any other regular mini paint. They're just really light is all really.

I ain't a fan of GW's overuse of edge painting recently, but even with more progressive tones over areas they can still be topped off with an edge highlight to make them pop. For that, or just regular final highlights the one I have works a treat.

I shan't bother getting any of their others though. The purple final highlight can be achieved by adding a spot of white to a lighter purple, as I imagine a similar thing could occur with the others. I only got this one out of curiousity, and purple can be an arse to highlight with it veering off into violet or indigo. Maybe the orange one could be useful as a final highlight for red.

Are the edge paints limited edition for good? I thought about buying these too but if I get used to using them then can't repurchase further down the line I'll probably give them a miss :>

Well I don't know, but GW does retire paint colours/entire ranges so it's easier to skip them entirely as it will happen. Of course the price/volume silliness has precluded such acquisitions for a number of years anyway.

Quality or Value for money?
V4M Nah, doubt it GW paints are seriously overpriced in comparison to other brands.
Quality? Who knows, I will not be bothering with them.

Overall Paints are paints its the painter who makes the difference.

I have really enjoyed them and they require little to no thinning with a brush and it's pretty good through the airbrush too! I'm a bit of a citadel paint fanboy though BTW, they are no longer limited editions. You can buy individual pots of them.
