Cleaning minis

I was lookin at some miniatures on coolmini and it lead to a question for people in general. When filing and cleaning minis, does anyone file down sharp corners on minis to make them more rounded so that they are easier to paint smoothly?

For instance a puter gun for Imperial Guard. Metal guns have sharp corners on the body, and the like, and I was just curious to know of anyone files down such corners so that when painted they look more smooth and less sharp.

Probably the opposite. File swords to make them sharper and eliminate that square dull edge.

Yes, I do sometimes. Common sense says that if there\'s a sharp corner on a mini the paint will be susceptible to rubbing off.

A good coat of primer and a final coat of varnish should be enough to protect most minis though.

Actually more often than not I\'d do the reverse! In addition to giving any edged weapon an actual edge I\'ll sharpen detail, makes things look crisper etc. as much as possible (unless I get bored).

FWIW I don\'t find sharp corners/edges a specific problem to paint.

Actually more often than not I\'d do the reverse! In addition to giving any edged weapon an actual edge I\'ll sharpen detail, makes things look crisper etc. as much as possible (unless I get bored).

FWIW I don\'t find sharp corners/edges a specific problem to paint.

Agreed! I actually find \"soft\" details annoying. Sharp detail helps make the final paintjob sharp and striking. If a mini has soft detail I tend to paint it so that it looks sharper (that is, if I actually DO paint a mini with soft detail).
