Cleaning the cobwebs out: Cadian Sniper

Here he be. A bit ugly I know, but I\'m finally finding time to sit down and paint again. Comments and criticism are greatly appreciated.

I\'m slowly getting back into it. Painting is a bit like learning to ride a horse again, sucks getting thrown but it\'s nice once you get the hang of it. I\'m trying to decide if I want to stick with using black primer or transition to white.

I\'m also thinking of going to P3 paints; I don\'t know what it is, I\'m just having a bit of trouble with VGC\'s lately.

Yep, I\'m transitioning away from the VGC as well.

I did some research on P3\'s and I found an excellent article about them. Let me know if you\'d like it. They have a very nice thickness to them and they don\'t seperate like the Vallejos do. I think the coverage of Vallejos can be nice, but they become impossible to work with when I add water to them to create thin layers for highlights and shading.

I thin VGC with a mixture of equal parts Liquitex flow-aid, matte medium and drying retardant. The flow-aid thins the pigment in a suspension, so that the pigment doesn\'t pool. A drop of this mix and a drop of VGC works nicely over black or white primer.

My comment about your sniper is related - thinner colors would make your (rather nice) camo appear more organic.

Thanks for the comments . It was my first attempt at trying camo so I just gave it a whirl. I\'ll try to be a little more ginger about the gradual progressions with it next time.

I\'ve picked up a handful of the p3s, and I do like them...but to be honest, I am really liking some of the Foundry Paints I\'ve recently gotten.

The sell them in 3 part shades, and they come in the old style flip lids that GW (citadel) put out years ago. The paint has been plenty thick and stays together better that VGC.

I\'ve given up trying to be a \'finesse\' painter, and just want to work on solid paint jobs. That paint suits me just fine for that.
