Clear Gloss + Matt Medium = Clear Matt?

Is this what a matt medium is used for? I have some bottles of clear gloss plaint but need clear flat and am thinking about buying matt medium to add.

Thanks!

Spray matte medium I\'ve found to be good and flat, but brush on \'matte\' medium is glossy. Don\'t know about mixing though.

It can be. But which matt medium? They vary a lot; some are way more effective than others.

If you had Tamiya Flat Base for example (great matting agent) you can turn a glossy finish like Future/Klear into a matt varnish no problem if you just add enough. Very thorough blending is a must.

My understanding is that matte medium is generally used to dilute a paint such that it still has some body and doesn\'t fall apart (and separate as it might with just water).

Depends on the matte varnish, how thickly you apply it, and if the underlying coats are still wet/damp. I can put on a brush on matte varnish on a figure and have it be nicely flat.

If you want a non shiny finish for your painted mini use matte. Personally I do not use gloss for anything. I find that using a matte spray helps blend paint layers together.

Its likely to come out satin. Better to use the gloss then cover it with a matt varnish.
