Cloaks, large surfaces of clothing.

I\'m having trouble with large surfaces. They always seem a bit blotchy. I look at some of the better paint jobs out there, and can\'t help but wonder what I\'m missing. I do multiple thin coats for initial coverage. Can anyone give me some more tips? Here is one of my latest attempts.

Thanks in advance.

I think your initial basecoat is too thin. I typically use a 1:1 water to paint to basecoat with, then thin it more to do shading and highlighting. I think your initial coats are too thin and this is causing the blotchyness. How many coats is it taking you for your basecoat? It shouldn\'t take more than 2 or 3, unless you\'re trying to do white over black primer or something similiarly tough :)

I was working on white primer. For base coats, I tend to dilute around 4:1 for vallejo model colors, around 2:1 for vallejo game colors, reaper pro paints and gw citadels. I usually do 2 base coats, but this one took like 4 or 5 coats. I think I was using Reaper Breonne blue plus a touch of black for my base color.

Yeah I agree, something not quite there on the basecoat. I would try thining it less, only add a little water. You can also try doing an ink wash over the basecoat then re-basecoat, just leaving the ink in the most rcessed areas.

Then you can go wild with the diluting of the paint.

not just me...

Yup, I have similar problems....

Can\'t say I would have noticed yours too much, if you hadn\'t have pointed it out.

Excellent job on the scripting on the cloak, by the way...
