I know this isn\'t my \"best\" work, but really. Prior to this I averaged a 7.4 (with an equivalent number of votes). If I had known entering a CMON contest was a way to get burned, I wouldn\'t have bothered!

could do with some more highlights on the nmm. some bright spots would really make it shine.

Hi Heather, I understand your point about the burning. I think the Cmon contests get \"sniped\" a lot, as entries I have made always score lower than my other stuff. Also, my entries often seem to \"lose\" votes over night! My only explanation for this is that maybe someone is sniping the mini\'s down ? And that the system identifies these votes as snipes when the rankings are determined ? Not really sure how it works, pure speculation. I, also think the hair is very well done on your entry but I do agree about the base, those kind of bases always lower a score on a mini (I learnt the hard way too lol). Good work though !

i think the even more competitive aspect of the contests mean that sniping occurs but i can honestly say i have hated most of the cmon contest minis, so taste could be part of it
I wouldn\'t be too disheartened Heather. While it\'s not a stunning miniature, the paintwork is good with areas which could worked on as has been suggested.
Sadly there will always be people who vote down miniatures deliberately just because they can, just as there are people who like or dislike Naked or Semi-Naked miniatures.
Majestic0110 makes a good point as well; Miniatures put up for competitions seem to have a Harsher scoring approach simply because the mindset of competition appreciation/judging is more stringent then the general appreciation gallery.
However do not be disheartened, the next Competition Mini looks superb and should be a challenge.

Yeah, the next mini is excellent! I have almost finished mine actually, did something a bit different with it lol. Are you entering the next comp Heather ?

Yeah, \"sniped\" good term. Went from 6.6 to a 6.3 overnight. With only an increase of about 20 votes. Mathematically it could happen with straight 6\'s. But I really doubt it. Oh, well. I didn\'t really expect much from CMON given the lack of controls on voting. I\'m just shocked to have been, apparently, targeted.
I doubt I\'ll enter another CMON contest. But who knows? I\'ll take a look at the fig and timeline. Its more a lack of time to paint than my experience here. But if I am going to invest the time, I\'d rather enter a contest that has \"fair\" judging.
I knew the base was an issue and those bases can be done well given time. Dark sword bases are actually quite nice. They just need to be \"done up\" and honestly, I ran out of time. She\'s still sitting in my WIP area as there are improvements I\'d like to make to her. I\'ll post again when she is complete

Yeah, its surprising how much a score on a mini. can change overnight, I\'ve had experiences like that also with my other contest mini.\'s. Remember what DragonsReach said above, it might just be that the voters do not like the miniature itself, due to its graphic nature; irrespective of how well its painted. I agree that the contest system, and the voting system as a whole, has flaws; but I guess its just aimed at letting everyone have an opinion.

Anywho... Found the Lich for the next contest, but can\'t seem to find the contest writeup anywhere... Can you help? Looks like a nice mini, lot\'s of room for elaboration. I doubt I\'ll have time, but it\'s fun to look and this way... I can make sure to have my (one) opinion on the next contest!

This poses a few problems though: Shared PC\'s will have only one vote allowance and the overhead on the database will be much larger. Its also really not that hard to hide an IP address. Another method would be to JUST allow members to vote. Standard membership is free after all...

yeah, I do believe that would be a better system. I guess though, that all you need to become a member is a valid email address. So if you REALLY wanted to sabotage an entry (or entries) all you\'d need to do is sign up a new email address then sign up to CMON with a dummy account. There\'s just no stopping cheats I guess....

I think that members only for contest votes would be a good idea. As a computer professional myself, I understand the difficulties. However, as an artist who wishes to be judged fairly, well... you know.

The voting system and it\'s value has ruined many a good painter here!
It\'s just a single measure. Don\'t get caught up in it, or trying to figure out why people vote what they do. It\'ll drive you crazy AND ruin your love for painting!
This is a very solid mini. But, I\'m a little uncomfortable with naked women. I guess I\'m just a prude, but women\'s breasts should never be displayed in public.
