Rural...?!?!?

Mike....so glad (thru gritted teeth!) you got your CMON annual already :D

I\'m going away for a couple of days to London, so what\'s the bet that Mr Posty will arrive with it tomorrow and \'attempt\' to squish it thru my letterbox, fail, and then take it right back to the post office??!? Yup, just what I thought - MOST LIKELY :p lol

Please remember those things that have to be waited for often taste the sweeter for the wait.
As for \"Rural\" according to one person I was talking to anything outside of London is \"The Sticks\". He worked for Royal Mail. Sorry!

Aargh! -I\'m in London and it still hasn\'t arrived - I hope it is sweet when it finally gets here.

Trouble is with this extended build up in anticipation I\'m worried that it will dissapoint.

My thoughts...

I love my book, I got it two or three weeks back and have looked through it quite a few times.

I\'d be interested in seeing some comments from the artists and the scale of the mini. As a helpful bit of info, maybe make a page at the beginning of the book that shows silhouettes of the different scales all lined up next to each other, and maybe some text to explain why there are different scales to fill out the page.

A tip that may be helpful for future submitters... If you\'ve got Phhotoshop you can blow a mini up to Titanic proportion by changing the resolution of the mini...that should make the pic more suitable for print use. For the pictures I submitted I blew them up to 300 dpi before I sent them in (they were probably 20\" x 30\" and 5MB each or more...but that\'s what you need for print I guess... Doing this in Photoshop WILL NOT make the pic look grainy or blocky unless it was very low res to begin with... Experiment and you\'ll see what I mean...

Peace and thanks to Chern Ann and Wightzombie for this superb book!!!

Mine came in as well.
The layout was great (Good job Wightzombie)
My only complaint was on a few of the Pics.
Victoria\'s beautiful \"rescue\" mini was made rather mundane by such a small picture. The lighting she did didnt stand out as well as it does on the website.

Ohh and none of my stuff was in it which would have made it the Best book ever! ;P

sorry bout that, biggest pic we could get. notice how the close in shots are bigger because its a single mini. when she had to take a picture of the whole diorama then you set it tp print standards it gets very small. trust me if we woulda had bigger pics it would be nice and juicy like dirk stillers tea cup rescue.

as for her lighting, welcome to print! see my post on this, 2nd post on PAGE

for absracity:
yup comments sound pheasable. i can shrink the txt slightly and use more of that white space up. as long as things dont get to crowded its cool.

mini scale would work. probably wouldnt use up a full page explaining it, maybe a half page stuck in some free space at the begining just as scale size. i think reasoning would be we dont want to repeat in a art book what is common knowledge to collectors etc.

scale size next to minis sounds doable to. BUT i wouldnt dig just the overall line of minis scale but people actually measuring head to toe the mini in mm. that may be a prob for some specially if the minis were sold and for dioaramas etc. may work, but may be inconsistent in the book.

for print, this will be in the next years email requirements, just send the biggest pic you got and let me do the rest. its very confusing with rgb cmyk lab lol, tiffs jpeg eps, 96 72 144 300 dpi, i got in all sorts of stuff and i literally went over the pictures 3 times throughout to make sure they were all set right. if you can just send them as big as hell highest quality jpeg you can and ill change em all. i have to say between the tiffs and jpegs sent there was no noticable difference in print quality between pics taken with good cameras etc thats why alot of business are moving towards pdf\'s with jpegs for print.

thx for all the feedback, i think next years will shape up perfectly.

Hello there. As this is my first post, I\'d like to start my saying thanks to all at CMON for inspiring me to get back into miniature painting after a long break.

:D

I\'ve been lurking on the forums for a while now but I was going to wait until I had posted a miniature before jumping in. But as I\'m a very slow painter and I\'ve just got my CMON Annual I decided to take the plunge.

So thanks to Chern Ann & Wightzombie for a beautifully produced book. I can\'t fault the design, layout or content. My only worry was the price, but you definitely made the right decision to go for quality - well worth it. It even smelled good! (I can\'t be the only person to appreciate that can I? ???)

I\'m already looking forward to next year\'s annual - for what it\'s worth, my preference would be to continue to get in as many good pictures as possible, without too many comments, tutorials etc.

And finally, thanks to the featured artists for submitting their frankly amazing work and giving mere mortals like me something to aim for, learn from and be inspired by.

:bouncy:

Uh oh. Now I suppose I\'m forces to admit that the first thing I did was take a big sniff of it. And it did smell good :]

Welcome to the Forums.

Still not got to the sticks....

I am glad to hear everyone is getting a big buzz out of the CMON Annual. I can\'t wait to be buzzed myself but it hasn\'t arrived in Cornwall yet....:(

Nomis, Tooshy have you got yours yet?

Excellent work on the CMON annual, it is indeed a big success. What I noticed though, was that the content was very heavy on the fantasy side with less pages devoted to Sci Fi and Historicals. Fantasy is my preferred genre, so I\'m happy with that bias, but is the next one going to lean more heavily towards Sci fi minis? I think it would be useful to have a more equal share of the two (I\'m assuming here that the amount of historicals on the site is significantly lower than that of Sci fi or fantasy stuff).

Kat:
having read your comments, I was thinking that the bias towards Fantasy may be due to the scoring. There are more Fantasy figures with high scores than SF figures. (I\'m pretty sure anyhow) In the majority the SF figs tend to be GW, and because of their domination of the SF genre and being seen to be the \"Evil\" company are judged accordingly.
Fantasy figures have more manufacturers and therefore have a larger repetoire for painters. A good evidence for this is Finn\'s moderation of the \"Boring into Art\" Space Marine. (To which I must pleased guilty and say I\'ve done nothing about!) If we didn\'t regard the marines as \"Seen one Seen \'em all\" there would be more artworks on this site.

Finn17:
Trust me it\'s worth the wait. (As if you\'ll ever trust me again!) Hope it arrives soon!

I believe you Mike. I am a patient man, but my poor postman\'s life is hell at the moment, because I have also upgraded to broadband and whilst AOHell have upgraded my subscription, they have not yet supplied me with my modem, so I am paying double subscription, AND the cost of phone calls through the dial-up service.

This is why I have dug a \'postman trap\' in my drive:D:D:D

On this side of the Pond, that\'s considered being prudent :D
Then again, our postmen tend to be a bit better armed and more, uh, edgy than yours, I believe:)

ie. - What\'s it mean when the flag at the Post Office is at half staff?

THey\'re hiring.

:D

Uh-oh. I hope I didn\'t offend anyone:innocent:

yah, as dragon reach said thats the market and how they are scored. there is noy way we could get a balance of historical models in, if we did thered be none left for the next book. as for scifi if we packed more of that in all you would see is wall to wall space marines since theres not much competition and very high quality painting wise that competes with GW. so for now fantasy will likely always rain int he book which is fine by me as i enjoy it more also. but in reality it just comes down to who chern emails in a specific order and what they worked on and thats what gets in.

Fair enough, I didn\'t expect there\'d be enough historicals and I love fantasy stuff anyway so thats great!;)

When is Chern going to start selecting for the next one then? :D (hoping to be in the next one ):innocent:

probably early next year im guessing. give people a month or so to get thier pics in maybe. this year will have much better guidelines and stuff and the whole process should go faster and smoother specially since in a week ill have a faster comp i scored off a job trade and so i wont be using a 6 year old computer to make the book this time! the cover almost killed my poor comp. over a 1000 meg photoshop file. uhghhh nightmare.

CMON annual blues.....

...I\'m still waiting for my Cmon Annual :( It all seems to have gone a bit quiet lately - anyone else still waiting for theirs? Having heard Dragonsreach and Finn got theirs, I was quite hopeful, but that was a couple of weeks ago now ???
