i think the company sponsored tutorial or something that would be cool, im just not sure how effective that would be since it only has a run of 1000. i think by the end of the year the book will be doing decent, i really just think its about word of mouth, maybe getting retailers to pick it up as a popular product. twould be cool.

Sponsorship

Sponsored articles would ceertainly be a good thing : it provides at the same time content and money. If the sponsor agrees that the \'ad\' part of the article is not too intrusive, it can blend very well in the book.
Even with only 1000 copies, it could be of interest to sponsors, because it is perfectly targetted: each and every buyer has disposable income reserved for minis, paints, brushes, ...

And what about selling a CD with the book? The CD could contain some of the pictures, the articles posted that year, ads from manufacturers, ...

It\'s not \'just 1000\'...

Using Vallejo as an example, I would think they would be delighted to get their message accross to 1000 \'hard core\' mini fans. Most advertising effort is wasted on people who just aren\'t interested. Look at spam....:flame:
Targeting 1000 committed folk is a different venture altogether...:bouncy:

Coming from a psychologist, I find the use of the word \"committed\" a trifle disturbing:D

NO wait! I didn\'t mean I\'m \"disturbed\":wow:

But seriously, having worked with advertising some, 1000 \"qualified leads\" should be worth their weight in gold.

1000 isnt a wholly small number but today when your dealing with what the same money could buy at huge sites for 50,000 imprints its quite different and may only appeal to major league\'rs although books and magazines have the longest advertising lifes although mags get more hits.

i think the book will cover itself and hopefully some of the next or something, it looks like it will, although it would be cool to maybe get the book extended in all areas due to sponsors or something, and have it cost the same to the public. id love to take a winky at 200 pages and keep the cost normal. i really have no idea how practical that is, dats for cherny to play with.

for sponsors i wouldnt mind each one maybe sponsoring a category - scifi fantasy etc and each tutorial then on the logos page maybe have some small sponsor logos.

no clue, play with it all next year.

Hmmm....

just seeing a copy of the book would be a novelty right now..... :p

EDIT: Sorry that was a cheap shot, but I\'m at a low ebb and need cheering up and hearing my CMON annual drop through my letterbox would be just what the Doctor ordered :D

PS Being at a low ebb the only way to get through it is naturally to stuff your face silly with something you like. So... there being no chocolate in the house I just shared some really stinky cheese with the cat - we now both have breath that could bitch-slap a yakk at a hundred paces.....I\'ll never sleep tonight :(

Aahh...the joys of stinky cheese....That\'s the only thing I miss about my previous address..the small, specialist cheese shop that used to sell an extra mature blue cheese that made made ultra-ripe Gorgonzola taste like Dairylea cheese triangles. Mind you, I now have more friends, and the dog has decided to come home:D

(I can\'t be bothered to read through 5 pages of feedback, so if somebody else said this before... more power to them)

1. Very nice overall.
2. A few minis appeared multiple times ; while their quality was beyond question, I kinda feel that a given sculpt should appear only once.
3. There were a few minis I thought were not painted to the standards the book as a whole upholds. But hey, maybe that\'s just me, I tend to find things to bitch about more easily than things to praise...
4. To Chern Ann : that was a very moving epitaph.
5. I liked the layout ; nice without demanding particular attention.
6. A dividing page between sections would have been nice.
7. I want to be in the 2004 edition ! must...work...harder...

There. On the whole, thanks to everyone for a book I\'ll preciously keep for as long as I\'m into this \'mini\' thing. :D

Well, that\'s odd.

I finally received my 2 copies of the annual.

My shipment confirmation email was sent to me on Sept 16 - but the books are postmarked October 8. Bizarre city.

The book looks great - lots of pics seem small but I only just started to skim the contents. The \"new book\" smell is nice :) Minor grip: the first of my included photos has my name spelled wrong (Jarett instead of Jarrett) - but like I said, minor gripe. It\'s a class production all the way.

Jarrett

A public plea to Chern.

Chern Ann, I have tried emailing you at sales@coolminiornot.com, on thursday last week about my order (#390). It seems it is still processing. If possible I would like to find out what the problem is. Perhaps its my Credit card? Can we cancel the order and do it through paypal instead?
I have re-sent the email tonight again with the details.
Your time is much appreciated in this.

Thanks
-Angela:innocent:

FINALLY!!!

I finally got my Anuual!!! It was in the second wave from Singapore as I wasn\'t aware of it until rather late.

I am very imressed:)! I have been involved in many photo catalog productions and given that they had things thrown at them digitally from god knows where, and that some of the photographers weren\'t all that accomplished, this is a very impresive result. Trust me, getting that many photos from different sources to look that good is not an easy thing.

Kudos to all involved, and I look forward to next year\'s edition! And I now have the goal of making it into a book one day, though it may take several more years of work!:~(

I got mine too

Mine arrived about a couple of weeks ago, but I\'ve been pouring over all the great pics, so not posted anything yet.

I think the books great - kinda reminds me of the Games Wowkshop annuals they used to produce, but this one\'s better \'cos its manufacturer \'independent\'. I put it in quotes, \'cos there\'s a hellava lot of Rackham in there, which is great :D :D

All in all, I can\'t wait for the next one and my aim is to appear somewhere in those hallowed pages...even if I staple in a pic myself lol
