The Spanish Inquisition
Hi everyone! I just submitted my entry for CMON Contest 16. Absolutely lovely sculpt and I really hope I did it justice. As I mention in my comments, I tried quite a lot of different things to see how I could manage them. I would really like to hear what you think.:)

Ahh nahh... my interpretation is just shiny and not everything that shines is good lol

I feel a bit strange about commenting on your work here, because of that competition in the back of my neck, but i will not give a damm about these feeling, because in the end it is the fun we all have in painting that great model... i really loved that model the first time i saw it and had a lot of fun on the version i did...

I really like your model here. I try to say some careful words about criticism. I don\'t mean anything bad about it, it just feels strange, so please take this not as an advice or a must go or something like this. It\'s more some words to describe what i feel and get in my mind when i do look on your version... i say it as it comes from my mind...

I love your base... brings him out really big and mystic...

I also like your chosen colours, but in my eyes there is a bit too much going on when i only look about the colour harmony in the end. There is purple, blue, orange, green, red... really busy to find a place to focus on... Also your colours are all very bright and mighty... if you mix in some grey or a tip of black in your colours you want to paint with, you can achieve some subtile colour, which won\'t fight too much for attention... at the moment every colour is fighting for it, that makes it so busy... if some \"not that important\" parts would be a bit more in the back from their brightness and would be more subtile the whole model would get more silent for the viewer...

What also helps to use mostly the same colours for highlighting and shading your work. Lights, for example bleached bone over to white, and shadows a blue over to black in it... now you just need to chose the colour you want to have for that part and do all the same in the lights and shadwos... that brings a lot of harmony in the end result...

I still do like your version, i just write my weirdo thoughts here to ... i don\'t know why... just did it... maybe, if my blabla is understandable and you get the point that i mean ...

I mean i am looking forward to your next pieces...

Keep on happy painting!
Regards

Ooh, this is the second of these I\'ve seen, after Jarhead\'s, it really is a nice figure isn\'t it?

2nd thought: nice painting style

3rd though: garish colour scheme

I wonder if it might be as simple as bringing the green/yellow final highlights up to white to match the highlights on the skirt, cloak & bone. The armour is perhaps a little warm but does look to come to white. Perhaps the central dangly bits area brought up a little more too?

The base is very nice, I really like your style. Oh, the shield is a stand out as well

I\'m looking forward to seeing more of these competition entries, good luck.

well Jarhead, your words are totally understandable and I really see where you are getting. It is actually the problem that many people pointed out with my model, the choice of colours. It is really something that came out as I was painting it. I had Warhammer 3rd edition in my mind when everything was vivid and unrealistic lol ... still not totally dissatisfied with the final result but I think that maybe this is personal taste. (maybe I have so many great memories from these 3rd ed. Warhammer days :p )

anyways, by no means at all I could be offended by such greately given constructive criticism... this is the point actually on posting this fella on the discussion forums after all.

@BPI, I see what you mean with bringing my greens to a final white highlight. Maybe that would even the odds quite a bit.

Overall thank you for sharing your thoughts about my model. This is the way I keep myself motivated to become better in the future...
