Okey dokey...This started off in the feedback thread, but is possibly worth elevating...???

If CMON were to give birth...what features/changes would folks like to see in CMON II?

Okay..some ideas...

A smaller associated site that was more \'elitest\'. Wrong word, but you know what I mean:D Signed up committed painters commenting on each other\'s work,... could still share forums I guess...???

Additional sections for new things like Dark Age and War machine...

Mega subscription deal. A system whereby your subscription included CMON Ltd ed minis...possible Harbinger?????

A no vote without leaving a comment restriction?????

Okay, this isn\'t likely to happen, but there is no harm in speculating....So what would you like to see..... or not see?

We\'d probably have to kill Cyril and boil him down for his essential fluids...add, a leg of Victoria, an arm of Arjay etc...

You could be onto something there:D

Some good stuff mentioned Steve. I would definitely like it to be \'elitest\'. Sorry, but I would like a database of the top painters, and the most beatifully painted minis! Perhaps a system of submitting a \'panel\' of minis to be assessed by an independent set of painters / moderators to keep up the quality? Basically 8-10 or 9-10 material here on CMON. A new scale of voting, so you would still get a cross section of marks.

Another idea would be to put the back catalogue of photos into an archive, losing minis below a certain score. You wouldn\'t have to vote on ancient stuff, where your vote is totally irrelevant and it would be easy to update year on year and choose stuff for an annual!

Hey! That would be an idea...

As a photographer, I know many people strive to be awarded qualifications handed out by the Royal Photographic Society (RPS). Member, Associate, Fellow etc....

There is no reason why this notion could not be adapted...:flip: That would be fun:D

Damn it! If there\'s an elitest group, I\'m fried. lol

I would like to see more of a offspring site dedicated to painters who relaly want to help other painters. Implement a can\'t vote without leaving a comment feature so that people who would like to get feedback could post there, whereas people pnly interested in the marks could remaina at CMON 1.

God knows.....

I know little more than anyone else. The site is run by Chern Ann and Borg. That\'s the extent of my knowledge....I do know that they read threads such as this though, so it is not a complete waste of time. :D

I do like the idea of a must comment to vote site.

How about a yearly turnover? What I mean by this is pictures remain for a year, then go into an archive, the rankings etc are only based on the current years stuff.

It would be very interesting to see how voting and rankings changed from year to year, and the archive would give a historical record of what was hot at the time.

Seems the idea I just threw out is getting some play. I would support the idea of a different type of site. With some of the ideas suggested for improvement, one that is even more commited to actual painters and their improvement and promotion of the hobby.

Don\'t get me wrong I LOVE CMON and all of the wonderful articles and resources it offers to those of us that actually use it, but a site dedicated to aspiring and developing painters would be great. I agree that I have found many of the other forums a little to warm and fuzzy for my taste. I want people to critique my work, tell me where they see room for improvement, and suggest other techniques and such to improve. Frankly I don\'t see the point in being heavily involved in an online community that doesn\'t offer some of that. And when I do get comments from forum denizens and painters that I respect, good or bad, it makes my day. From what I have seen of some of the other forums, it is only so much mutual mental masturbation, and not very helpful in the development of painters.

CMONII ( in my dream world) should not be elitist but should involve people that are willing to have an online presence and have some accountability for their actions. The random sniping that happens on this site has, I am sure, driven off some people with high potential ( in fact I know of a couple). I think that what people who are trying to improve really want is real critique, honest criticism, and a comraderie with other painters. What I don\'t want is people to tell me how great I paint, what I want is a community of people who share honest opinions and comments that all have in mind the improvement and promotion of the hobby.

Guess what guys and gals, the more promotion and excitement the hobby generates, the more COOL stuff is available for us to paint!!!;)

I also think that it could be a site running concurrently with CMON that only member types would have access to. If you are willing to provide your email address so that people have a way to contact you and are willing to support the ongoing efforts and expenses of the site then that just plain shows a different level of commitment to the hobby than the peanut gallery that just shows up to throw numbers at work where they have no clue as to the effort of creation.

Luckily we can have this discussion in the forums ( I think) without incurring the wrath of the snipers out there.

Let me just say that I had a discussion with a VERY good painter at a convention this weekend who said that he just plain ignores CMON due to all the BS sniping and lack of accountability involved, he doesn\'t find it helpful at all. I would love to pull this painter and everyone like him into the community so that we can all benefit from his experience! AND build a more committed community that would have us all discussing techniques and sharing a beer at various events in the future!

You maniacs are my peeps and I would love the chance to get to know you and learn from you. We are a very small minority in this great wide world and the internet is THE best place for us to come together and offer support and encouragement, as well as offering to buy the occasional round:D

No voting without commenting.

While I think that the addition of a new site is something that I might be persuaded is a good idea, the two concepts identified are both good and I would support.

I think making submission and voting subscriber only is a very good idea (by all means non-subscribers can browse) I dont think it should be elite only, just focused on how people who are commited to the site, who wont post \"spacemarine trooper bottom view\" pictures along with the other 10 angles and all the other posting features that annoy us.

I also think there should be tighter control of what goes up, for example is the picture is not really clear enough to see the paint job reject it letting the submitter know why.

I reckon this could be something that is possible now, but you would need a much larger staff if this was to happen though...

I wouldn\'t want a CMON II based on an \'elitist\' idea. *gasps and boos from the audience* Incidentally, CMON is elitist enough already in the eyes of its detractors, just go ask over at the Warmachine boards what they think.

If you create a CMON \"just for them good painters\" with approval panels and what-not, it\'s bound to create a whole lot of hostility and resentment over who gets in and who doesn\'t, and omg-it\'s-so-unfair-my-mini-is-perfect-but-the-pic-is-fugly-so-they-rejected-it-the-bastards. More importantly, those who can paint to these standards will migrate en masse to CMON II, leaving those who can\'t to their own devices. The gods in their Olympus, and the newbs left to rot ? Kind of defeats the purpose of CMON, don\'t you think ? What about this whole idea of tutoring and advice and all that ? Of course, you could just say that they\'ll simply have to be active on both sites : one to receive advice from their peers, the other to give advice to those who need it. But who\'s going to go through that hassle ? I\'m sure plenty of great painters would be ready to do this in principle, until they discover they have to spend twice as much time online...

If you just want awe-inspiring minis, why don\'t you just change your browsing habits ? My primary ling to CMON isn\'t the old coolmini.com, it\'s this more elaborate link. It\'s simply the gallery of all 8.0+ minis, sorted by descending date.

So much for an elitist CMON. As for accountability, I\'m all for it, but I don\'t think you need a whole new site for this. *shrug*

If you change the voting system massively then i think you would need a new site, however I see no need for a new forum, so all the advice etc that is given out here would still be given as it presently is

well, i don\'treally care, as long as the baby is healthy......lollollollollollollol

I do like the ideas here, but maybe that can be incorporated into the existing site, say, a contributing members only area(which i don\'\'t mind turning into a CMON contest/contribution membership, would force me to enter, I\'m normally too lazy to....;))

I agree with Wealon. I heard people saying the same on german forums, they already think CMON is too elitist and, I quote, \"a kindergarten of cocky wanna-be professionals\". While this might be true about some select few it\'s definitely not what the core group here is about (and with core group I mean those in the forums).
Something as a CMON II for painting Gods(Geez, how I despise this term) would only support the negative image lots of people have of this site.

And who wants detailed critique on their minis should visit the Submission forum. How about a special \"Need feedback? Try the Forums!\" button which advertises posting here? The link then leads you directly to the submission forum.
