CMON II?

multiple views....

yup, I think most folks are talking about the multiple view of the same exact mini.

\"Here is my the front

here is the back

here is the birds eye view

here is a worms eye view

here is me holding my mini\"

When you have an overly large mini, or a diorama, it is almost a necessity to show off several different pics.

Dr. Bob

but not THAT Dr. Bob
I read a Dave Barry column a couple weeks ago that proposed color-coded darts that you could shoot at drivers that annoyed you (one color for too slow in fast lane, a different color for cutting you off, a different color for just plain having a butt ugly car, etc.) He envisioned a policeman pulling you over and observing that you have a dozen red darts in your trunk and thus obviously have been driving recklessly.

Wouldn\'t it be cool to have something similar on CMON? Members could \"tag\" submissions anonymously for things like (1) having no title, (2) out of focus, (3) too many views of same mini, or <insert CMON faux pas here>. The poster could get a little automated message saying something like, \"X people have noted that your mini has no title.\" This way people who don\'t know better can learn what they\'re doing wrong specifically rather than just being disappointed by a low score AND at the same time, people wouldn\'t have to worry about being \"targeted\" in retribution for a \"harsh\" but necessary comment.

Just fantasizing... :D

I was just thinking of this (read: was extremely annoyed by) because yesterday as I was browsing (and this is not an exaggeration) every third figure was another angle of the same figure. Most of the pics were of the same view, just a slightly (and I mean very slightly) different angle. And somewhere in there was the 100th different view (ok that one is an exaggeration :D) of the same piece of scenery. Also lots of old WIP pics taking up space.

That is a pet peeve of mine too. Sometimes I\'m interested in seeing how various people did a particular mini so I use the Browse gallery to look them up, and I just know that there\'s probably more out there than what I\'m finding , but they\'re probably titled \"Another mini\" so I\'ll never find them using keywords. :flame:

I have never really understood the problem with the \'another mini\" thing to be honest, but that explanation makes perfect sense.

CMON II the Barbarian! or Destroyer? I forget

Since this has become it\'s own thread... here\'s what I was saying I would like to see on CMON II the Revenge of CMON!

My change for the upcoming CMON 2 would be something like instituting a \"Comment Tracking\" system, where your total score as in ranking is calculated not just based on your scores, but equated with how many comments and votes you have left for others...it wouldn\'t be the most accurate rating of your painting ability, but it would be a seperate indicator of your participation in the community with a sepate ranking...just a thought.

When you\'re looking at the \"Browse Gallery\" option, just trying to get through the voting and commenting on the current day\'s submissions can be a chore...I like voting and commenting on new submissions because I know that the person posting them is still active...and they will probably read them. Well, I think there should be an option when you vote on a new submission, it takes you to the next newest submission in line, instead of popping up a random mini...that way you don\'t have to close the new window and let the new image load each time...just a thought.

For those that missed the original topic that spawned this germ.

I have the concept of CMON with frames...that is, current CMON in one frame at coolminiornot.com for those of you who Love the current system, then in another frame located on the home page you can find Beta CMON II. This is a link which opens up a site that has the advanced options of CMON II...whereby a mini cannot be voted upon until a comment is left...you can always use a -> to go to the next mini w/o leaving a comment or voting. Hey, after about half a year, I only get around 80 or so votes on a mini, usually with <3 comments...so server bandwith wouldn\'t be compromised by data storage issues of backlogging all the comments if 1 comment=1 vote anyways.

Wow, after reading that last sentence, I think it\'s time to go to bed, I\'ve gone a bit wonky, starting to sound like a nerd. Laters

Or the default could be just nothing at all, so that if the poster doesn\'t insert a title a popup will tell them that they first have to type in a title before the submission can be processed.
Because, to be honest, the \"another mini\" title is driving me crazy as well and in my \"wrath\" I\'m likely to even deduct points for that.

Members only

If I had to specify one improvement for a \'new\" CMoN site, it would be members only. No more \'guest\' logins. This provides accountability, and a sense of community. Guests can\'t join the forums here for that very reason, but the voting on minis would be much improved if you had to stand behind every vote.

My serious thought for the day,

What I would like to see, though it wouldn\'t have to be a permanent feature, is a \'cool mini of the year\' contest. At the end of the year the 10 highest rated submissions (all those 9.7-minis) of that year are selected and then people can vote on a different scale (like above ten for example) or give numbers in order of quality so the best mini gets 1 the second 2 etc.. I think this would be a nice addition to the somewhat static top-10 list.

Having to be a member to vote could also cut down on those random crazy comments that people leave who have no interest in minis... only being a pain in the:moon::moon::moon:

You know what would happen......

Loads of people would either leave it as \'Please insert title here\', or else enter, \'Another mini\'.:D

Masterclasss Miniature Painters

There is a Yahoo group for MasterClass Miniatures Painters.

Glyn (AKA Zaphod) organizes the Golden Toadstools. I think it is one of the best examples of people coming together and pushing each other each month. A person definitely gets more/higherquality comments.

And I think it is going to get even better in the near future.
