This February will mark both my 25th wedding anniversary and my 28th year of living with Mr C. <sigh> I\'m getting old

Thank you for your analysis, Mr. Spock. :D

As for me... I have a nearby-long-distance GF of almost two years, we\'re planning to move in together soon :)

Married, with children. Err, child. First marriage, don\'t plan on ever divorcing as she\'s a wonderful woman. She would be the one to ask for one, though. I\'m not the best husband/boyfriend, but she loves me nonetheless.

Our marriage would be perfect if I could find a way to interest her in some of my hobbies, like skiing, video games, painting, cycling... minor details :)

Well, hell, I never planned on getting divorced, either; who does? Even after I found out she was cheating on me with an ex-boyfriend of hers, I still wanted to try and make it work. She insisted that she was still in love with him and wanted to be with him. She said she was happy with him and that made my life pretty miserable for while.

Kind of a weird twist, though: she\'s absolutely miserable now. I\'ve been happy ever since I got over all the garbage that went along with the divorce and I found a woman far better than my ex ever was.

As long as you have a few things you can do together, it\'s unlikely that two people will be able to share many hobbies etc. Even two otherwise similar people... My GF is not interested in painting, I\'ll be amazed if I ever get her to try painting a miniature, and if she ever gets me to do community gardening I\'ll... well maybe I\'d do it, but I\'d be rather bored ;)

An excellent example of how unpredictable love is... alas. If only we could avoid the uncertainty and pain.

@fieldarchy: I have to have a laugh at you, Mistress Meg. Not too long ago you were the Geek\'s Guide to Girls and Dating in the PYP thread. Silly girl. ;)

Why does someone always have to say something to break the ice? Some time ago, I\'d spent some time with a friend I was very fond of. We were saying goodbye one evening, and I bent to give her a quick hug and kiss on the cheek. That\'s when she said, \"you can kiss me, you know.\" She was, by far, the best girl I\'ve ever had, and I still miss her. The rest have been dismal. Point is, sometimes a spontaneous hug or friendly kiss can say so much.

In comparison, bluntly saying, \"I like you, I want to go out with you\", is quite similar to whacking someone over the head with a club and dragging them back to the cave. It\'s frightening because it\'s so direct. Frightening because it feels so controlling.

Just my perspective.

Oooooooh yeah , beeb there, but not married. Seems to me sometimes women are just too indecisive and THAT is what bugs me most. Always find myself asking if it\'s worth it in the end.

*laughs* Reading through this I\'d wonder if there\'s something about mini painters that attracts illness!

Myself, was nearly engaged once, ended badly, couple of disastrous relationships after that and was hiding behind the \"I\'m too ill to date\" excuse for a couple of years after.

Off the operating table and back into shape now though. So much for my plans in life to be married with a house and first child by 26! (had that pretty little picture in my head, aw, bless) Still I\'ve got two years as a student left yet, might pluck myself a corker stumbling around the dancefloor one of these nights. :drunk:

I put 2nd marriage...but you didn\'t have an option for \"and single\", since we have to go through the divorce still.

Whee.

I\'ve been married to my \"viking\" (or vicking, as Liz spells it!) for 11 years. We have one son together. He has two daughters from his first marriage, one (age 15) who lives with us (but just for the last 3 years) and one (age 21) who lives in Northern California.

This is my second marriage. I was married to an alcoholic for many years (realized that he was after the first year) and really tried hard....but ended up just enabling him. He has since joined AA, met a member, married her and they have a small daughter..he seems happy and that makes me happy.

HA HA HA HA! Oh, that one got me laughing for a long time. Thanks, Tooshy!

I really needed a good laugh today.

So far it looks like we might be wrong about painting people! This is encouraging news! Maybe we aren\'t the nerds we thought we were!

It looks like almost 70% of those who took the poll are in some kind of relationship. And here we thought we were all hopeless loners with no lives! Cheer up all of you without SO\'s! There is hope!

I\'m dating an amazing woman and i\'m in the process of shopping for a wedding ring... we\'ll be engaged for at least 2 years... for school financial aid purposes ...ugh.

Perhaps we geeks are better at seeking love than we realize. Or maybe we\'re just all really desperate and in need of the luvin.

Remember Revenge of the Nerds? The cheerleader ended up with the nerd because he had nothing better to do than learn about love and sex. That\'s us folks! When the other person finds out just how much we know they don\'t want to let us go! (we hope)
