but we have to agree that the CMON painting contests (especially the first one) was lots of fun :)

Huzzah for Moderators and Borg and Chern! And huzzah to us!

Borg, keep doing what you\'re doing and you mod types, please continue in babysitting us :).

What i found interesting was the fact Borg called Chern an aggressive businessman. Is it the man himself who\'s aggressive, or his business practices? I\'ve got a picture in my head of Chern attacking clients in a Basil Fawlty manner if they piss him off lol.

If that was the case I don\'t think the adjective of choice would be \'aggressive\', but rather \'incompetent\'. lol

The members who submit pics and articles every day are the heart of CMON...

...and it must suffer some cardiac issues cause it seems to me there are less and less votes on submissions. Now I don\'t know how to convince people to vote but perhaps removing that Top Last 7 days link could help(in addition there is no utility in this thing considering the search engine).People could discover something else than 9+...But perhaps it is really more interesting to leave a comment on a mini which has already 15 than helping newbies or less-skilled guys...
In brief, the more we are here the less we vote...???

Cmon does what it says on the tin really. It\'s the users who make the site. Though I have to say it hasn\'t had quite the same appeal to me for quite a while now, but hey....

I totally agree with this. At one time there was a attempt for the members to make at least a \'comment a day\' and I know I have done my best to keep it going for my part.

I vote and comment on a wide variety of miniatures, especially (but not limited to) on the folks that are \'forum goers\'.

I know there are users that just browse the pics from the high votes only, which of course is thier perogative... My opinion is though, that they are missing out on a great opportunity to help themselves and the site. By using a critical eye and voting and commenting on miniatures, I know it has helped me with my painting.

It becomes easier to spot trouble areas and things that don\'t work when you start looking at many other attempts.

Plus, there are so many great ideas and concepts attempted here that may not be averaging an 8+. and many people miss out on them because they aren\'t in the top votes.

I know it can be frustrating to see yet \'another mini\' with a bad pic and a bad paint job, but I think it is worth it to be able to see that one very cool mini that has only averaged a 6.5

I rarely use the TOP 10 LAST 7 feature. Don\'t get me wrong, I love to see those flawless miniatures too, it can be both inspiring and discouraging at the same time. Inspiring because of the sheer art, discouraging because of the sheer talent...

Anyhow, I have noticed a decline in voting as well. It seems to take for EVER to get a mini to its golden 50, and then after that it just disappears into the 40000+.

We have talked about an archive of some sort, and hopefully someday that will be implemented.

Take a few moments to comment on a miniature every chance you can get. (sorry for the long post)

I agree Supervike has a point about making a comment on as many mini\'s we see as possible however in reality it just isn\'t possible.
When I am home I look at many as I possibly can and I always vote on all I see, however to make a comment on each is nearly impossible although if I see something really deserving of a comment then I will.
I wouldn\'t mind leaving comments for those lower down in the rankings if I felt it would help, but when you leave a comment for someone asking for help and they then slag off the comment you left them or even worse snipe your hard work out of spite is it really worth taking the trouble for them when they are the ones who asked for a comment in the first place.

Mmmm...That makes me think that perhaps all snipers left cause of these vengeful menaces I read a while ago... Perhaps they were not only giving 1s?;)
Or perhaps people got bored of reading complaints about scores? Remember this guy whining about his mini \"only\" at 9?
How to make them/us vote again?
Adding the numbers of comments to posts for the \"title\"?Posting freaks could feel better also!;) I read this idea here a while ago so I guess at least one person will agree;)Variants : Top Last 7 days comments...;)
A random gift every 10000 votes? Or more vicious:No random. Each 10000 vote there is a gift so people will wait this one and the good day there will 200 comments!
Inserting mind control devices in next CMON mini or a subliminal \"VOTE\" between the pages.
Stop asking to vote?lol
Of course if we\'d know why people don\'t vote as much as \"before\" I could try to think about things that don\'t require changing the site.
BTW,we should really make some sort of monument to Supervike ,War Griffon ,Fizl and all these cool persons...Tho I\'m thinking that considering they voted on all minis there is a chance one of them is among my personal snipers!:D
CQFD...

Spot on...

Supervike is spot on with his comments. And like Wargriffon, I vote on as many as can and comment on as many as I can but not as much as I probably should. I\'ll make it one of my new year\'s resolutions to leave more comments. Hopefully I\'ll do better on that then the whole \"I\'ll exercise more\" thing... lol

And cudos to Borg and Finn for the great job that they do every day, and to Chern for creating this site, and to all of you other users out there who make this the special place that is really is.... ;)

Cheer,
Grumb

Thanks Grumb...

As has been said, it is the users who make the site and, I have to say,....I have seen no decline in the number of comments left by people. In fact, I would say there is a steady growth:D

There is a misunderstanding here and I must say it\'s all my fault since I used the word comments but my point is about votes. Are they really increasing? If yes then sorry I\'m getting old and my memory tends to make the past better;)
And another misunderstanding:I know that we make the site thanks guys;) That\'s \"against\" them/us I \"rant\".

Thats a hard statement PF :D I have voted a 1 now and then when I first started on the site nearly 2 years ago but that was when I went through a stage of being fed up with another mini by GW when it clearly wasn\'t another mini and it certainly wasn\'t by GW,

At one stage I had voted on every mini on the site as it stands at the moment I am about 6000 short of seeing them all and as I am going away for three months this weekend I dare say when I get back that number willmore have trebled. However I will keep on striving to see them all good and bad, and I will occassionally leave a comment as well get around to posting again myself must do that soon if I can get away fromm looking all the time and do some painting:rolleyes:

I don\'t just veiw one category I choose to go through the whole lot as they come this does mean that I only see the greens about once every 100 or so but I certainly don\'t vote them down because of what they are, anybody with the guts to have a goat sculpting good or bad has my admiration so rest assured PF I haven\'t given you any 1\'s and I\'m sure teh likes of Shaz and Supervike and the others haven\'t either.

Rant over and done with

Many thanks to everybody behind the scenes as well as the rank and file amongst us for making this site what it has become.

And can I site you all in my divorce as the wife reckons I spend more time browsing CMON than talking to her:eek:

From the greens I\'ve come across, I think most folks do respect the work that goes into them more than the painted figures. I\'ve seen some pretty poor greens, but they still had better ratings than an entry I\'d term a \"pretty poor paintjob.\" I think that makes sense, though... For most folks, sculpting a green takes longer and involves more effort than painting a figure.

I wouldn\'t call any of PF\'s stuff \"pretty poor greens\" however. There\'s some good stuff in his gallery.

Well maybe it\'s not so much an issue of number of votes and comments going down but number of pictures beeing posted going. I don\'t think the number of regular voter as gone down, I just think that the amount of people who find this site and want to post all their mini is increasing.

Another fine reason

I would just like to point out what I consider an excellent incentive to comment on as many minis as possible: Finn gets to moderate all the comments lol
Yes, friends, we need to keep MR. Finn as busy as possible! Perhaps that way someone will have the chance to catch and pass his post count !!! Okay, so that\'s really not likely, but... Just the thought of keeping Finn busy and \"off the streets\" seems like a worthy enough cause for me.
