When I first started painting (some sixteen years ago) GW had a painter working for them called Colin Dixon. It was when he left that Mike McVey took over as their lead painter. Does anyone know if he still works in the industry? His work was my favourite back then and I would love to see it again.

To tell you the truth a lot of GW\'s best employees mysteriously disapear, sometimes it is a shame that it happens.

Unfortunaty i wasnt even thought of 16 years ago so i would not even have a clue

I understand they get paid sod all and the pressure to churn out more and more stuff could really drain your love of the hobby.

i most agree with you there DrEvilmonki, i love GW and the hobby, although, i dont feel i would ever work for them because it would slowly destroy what i love to play/paint.

Since I started painting again (2 months ago after 10 years break:D) I have found so many new techniques and I really want to produce excellent figures. I will be lucky if I can paint 6 models a year lol.

That\'s strange, I\'ve known GW since 1991 and have always known Colin Dixon as their dwarf and orc sculptor. Do you have any pictures of what he painted? Anyways, haven\'t heard much of him lately though.

I\'m pretty sure he did the last Dwarfs, not sure who did the new ones that are coming out soon.

I thought he\'d done some stuff for Reaper, but that was Tim Prow.

Be honest, finn, you\'ve been \'treating\' them for situational stress and perhaps worse. ;) What do you do, force them to paint Rackham minis with Reaper paints and Vallejo brushes?

I know Mike McVey went off to help start Warmachine.

He didn\'t go off, he got sacked!

Noit sure what the vents were, bit I know he did a few year stint with WOTC for a while, but yes mike is now with Privateer Press.

As for Colin Dixon, I thought he was still a sculptor currently with Games Workshop.

I think hes worked on the most receint Skaven and new dwarfs.

He left, he most definitely didn\'t get sacked.

Then he worked at WOTC for about 3 years and left (not sacked) and now is with Privateer.
Colin did a couple of sculpts for PP and as far as i know is still sculpting on and off.

Sorry I didn\'t see Sebastian\'s comment about Mike or I could have corrected the error.

As I understand it Mike was very keen to try out a new direction for himself hence he left GW. Most of the people I\'ve spoken to still regard Mike\'s leaving as a loss.

C\'est la vie!

Bloody good sculptor that C Dixon b the way. His painting was good, but his sculpting much better. Dwarves with character...I\'d paint if they made a come-back. Ebay is too much work to get hold of nice figures :(
