Just to warn peeps that the page linked above tried to install blooming gator! (At least on my machine). I saw the first pic before I closed it down, and it did look very interesting.

Can anyone show the actual piccies?

My interest is both the world wars but to see colour photos from WW1 is rare indeed.
I have a book called WW1 in colour which was published to backup a tv series of the same name.
These pics were coloured over black and white photos for the most part.
Still very interesting though.

They are from a French photo archive:
http://www.mediatheque-patrimoine.culture.gouv.fr/fr/archives_photo/visites_guidees/autochromes.html
They were discussed a while ago on another forum on tanks and warfare. There are more in this archive.

Just in case you don\'t know French: click one of the subjects under \"accès au images\" to open a subwindow. There you can click the eye-symbol to see a pic. No thumbnails unfortunately. It\'s not just war pics by the way. Also other pics from that era.

I checked on a photo site and colour photography has been around since 1904. The proces was pretty difficult and therefore in limited use.

Some other links for b/w pics:

Good you guys reminded mee. One of the 1listsculpting guys is doing a Lovecraftian WW1 soldier so I\'ll send him the links too.

*EDIT* Sheeeet! Wish I had read the whole thread...I could have deleted...but....part of the strength of CMON is that we know we are all grippers at heartlol

No worries, Darth, you are forgiven!

The other links were wonderful, it was really nice to see those colour pictures.

Yeah, it was cool to see some colour pictures...It really brings the war home. At least for me, and probably most of my generation, WW1 and even WWII don\'t have the same impact, as the majority of pictures aren\'t colour. It\'s harder to identify with them in black and white. As soon as I see WWI or II pictures in colour, it makes it a lot more real, as sad as it is to say.

Interesting link there Darth. I\'d seen some colored shots, and have even seen some hand colored shots from the Spainish American War - but not that many from WWI.

incredible

As the 40K bible starts out,

In the grim future, there is only war.

If man doesn\'t learn from those pics, he may be doomed to that future. Those were indeed some incredible pics. And to think, we used to sing London Bridge is falling down. Those cathedrals looked like some serious architecture, but the bombs got them anyway.
Makes me think of our first view of Ground Zero in NYC, and my 7 year old daughter asked, \" Why do they hate us?\"
A hundred years and what have we learned?
