Colors for a Reaper Death Shroud?

I am new to mini painting and I wanted to work on blending. I primed a Reaper Death Shroud in black. I was thinking of having the inside of the shroud a very dark red and the outside black. What color should I use to highlight the black? (I was thinking dark blue.)

Also, should I cut this off the base and glue it to a GW square base? That way I can do some basing too.???

ah1 . . . secret revealed . . .

I\'ve been painting for many many years and I have finally come up with a terrific formula for highlighting black!
Vallejo\'s Luftwaffe Blue!!
Oh, it\'s terrific . . . gives a slightly blue/gray quality.

NOTE: it can\'t be used on it\'s own - you have to mix it into black in increasing quantities to the point that it\'s final lightness is around a 50:50 ratio.

None of my posted minis uses this yet but ALL of mine will going forward . . . stay tuned . . .

Blue will work great as a highlight for black, and is a good departure from the standard grey!

For the base, I glued one of mine to a round monster base for better stability. I then added some sand and small rocks and let it dry thoroughly before priming it. Because I painted it for gaming in a dungeon setting, I just drybrushed the base with various browns and olive green, and left it at that.

I used Reaper\'s Amethyst on the monster, and like how it came out. First coat was pure paint over a black base (over black, Amethyst is a very, very dark blue). I then began adding a dab of white to each layer - I wanted a typical ghostly look and think I got what I was going for!
