Commissar Croe, remember him?

Right well I realised that I\'ve put nothing new in my gallery for aaaaaaaages so I had a hunt around for something worthy and I found my old Commissar Croe bust.
After I dusted him off and went to set up my photo stage I realised that I couldn\'t find my bit of blue stuff for the background. Add to that my cameras batteries had almost had it :flame: I tried to print off a new blue sheet only to find that my last blue sheet had used up most of the blue:cussing: What I did get had loads of lines on it but I thought that I could maybe get away with it by cheating with photoshop to smoothe it out (after all I wasn\'t doing anything to the mini).

This is the best of the pics that I managed to get before the camera died

So before I take some more photos what do people think? Does it need anything drastic doing to it before I actually submit it?

Apart from the huge chip in the cap brim that I\'ve just noticed:cussing::cussing::cussing:

It\'s one of Forgeworlds quality pieces for scuplture but is very often forgotton or overlooked as it\'s no longer in production.
It\'s a great piece to paint throwing up some challenges for those people who have not painted large scale pieces before.

My observations, apart from the obvious chips (don\'t you hate it when that happens)
The fall underneath the Eagle medal, you seem to have painted as metal. If you look at the figure It\'s the lapel of the jacket not the chestpiece Armour.

The skin looks a little too Jaundiced and I\'d suggest warming it up with a few richer shadow tones and then rework the highlights. As generulpoleaxe is very fond of suggesting Purple does make for a \"True to live\" addition to the Skin tone. Adding a littel Green as well surpirzingly Warms the skin tone for shadow areas. There\'s a red stripe on his top lip which looks \"wrong\" I take it that\'s an accident?

Sadly the highlights on the Black Jacket/greatcoat are very heavy and need to be worked back to a more subtle and smaller grey highlight.

I\'m looking forward to seeing the re-work of this figure.

Seeing the photo of this guy has made me realise how rough parts of it actually are. IRL it looks a lot smoother but if the camera is going to pick out all these flaws then I\'d better do something about it.

@DR which bit do you mean by fall exactly as the gold and slilver part coming out from the bottom of the sash seems to follow directly on from the bottom of the chest armour. Unless he\'s weraing half of the plate underneath his coat or it\'s an odd shape it looks to me like it\'s armour but you may be right. Looking at how others have done it, it seems about a 50/50 split so I think I\'ll leave it for now but I may change my mind.

As for the face I painted this guy over 5 years ago and I didn\'t have any decent flesh tones so the only actual flesh tone used is elf flesh the rest is dark brown (possibly scorched) up to bleached bone with a touch of old crimson gore added. I wasn\'t entirely happy with it at the time but the lighting on this is making it look worse than it actually is.

I totally agree about the highlights though, they look crap on here I\'m going to have to give this guy a serious makeover lol

This is the bit I mean. It looks a lot like a German WWII officers Greatcoat Lapel to me. I know when I painted mine up I had to look a lot that the layout before choosing which way to go with it.

Yeah that\'s what I thought you meant. If it sat closer to his chest I\'d say it was definately armour, no question. But it sticks out a bit oddly so you\'ve made me start to have doubts.

From what I remember I\'d say you need to do the stuff above the sash to match the jacket too. It\'s been a while since I\'ve seen this model in the flesh though and my memory sucks, so I may not be the best judge.

This one seems to be painted the way I\'m thinking.

Right well I\'ve blended the harsh highlights on the coat in a bit, fixed the chip in the cap brim and softened his skin with some oil of olay and found some more blue card so it\'s time to go. I\'m quite pleased with the way the metals have turned out on this so I\'ve decided to leave the suspect part as it was, part of the armour.

New pic with better lighting makes the skin less yellow and more true to life.

Hopefully you can see the improvement. Shall I submit it?
