HI all,

As some of you may know at GD this year i purchased a few FW krieg models including the new commissar whichis an absolutly brilliant mini (apart from a dodgy cast on his sword hand)

I really enjoyed painting him and i think that the base i have made for him is one of my best bases i have done. Thanks to Automaton for the help on the black sides to the base.

I hope you like him!

Good stuff, I got this mini at GD too. Mine was cast perfectly though, all the other FW stuff I bought was badly miscast though, I didn\'t notice till I got home:mad:

Critisism:

I think you should have straightened out the sword, mine was bendly too so I bend it into shape and fixed it with super glue.

I dont like the cream coloured gas mask, it contrast too much IMHO

Great as your NMM is, it didn\'t convice me this time:(

Pro\'s:

Very nice blacks:D

Nice base:D

Nice reds:D

I hope I didn\'t come across as overly harsh.

Very nice James :)

Love the base, I think the snow \'frames\' the model, by putting above and below where he is.
The plasticard edges I feel you could have spent a little more time getting them lined up and smoothening the edges down a bit. Still looks good though.

The sword really needs restraightening, just dip it into some warm water and rebend it into place. You may need to repaint it, but it will look much better.

I like the light mask, you have the sword handle, shoulder tassles and cap detail all light colours and they bring the eye in towards the light mask. Really nailed the focal point IMO.

The blending is really smooth.. Just need to up the contrast a bit now and you will be onto a winner :)

Well I think that this is you best piece yet James. I disagree with Squig Hunter over the Cream Gasmask as a lot of WW1 masks were Raw canvas sealed on the underside. (No I don\'t know out of personal experiece before you ask :) )

As for the only \"flaws\" I see in this is the Bent Sword, the Cap Badge is a little too pale it could do with a darker tone nearer the peak of the cap and the base edges could do with tidying up. However thay are all minor criticisms on a very well done piece that you have every right to be proud of. Congratulations.

Wow James. You are starting to improve rapidly. This is a really really good job. I have this in my wip pile and your has actually made me a bit nervous to try it.

The sword as people have mentioned is noticeable and as Matty mentions a little more time on the plasticard edges would make a big difference. Deserves a mid 8 so I gave you a 10.

I\'m not trying to argue with historical accuracy, but I just don\'t think it fits with the other more \"muted\" (for lack of a better word), colours.

Also I think maybe you should try to darkline the part where the lense is a bit more. Great job tho\'

I think you should have painted it in bright yellow. There just aren\'t enough Commisars in bright colours, the gloomy lot.

Seriously now, it\'s a great job. I agree that the sword could do with fixing but the rest looks good, and I like the paler mask, it draws your attention to the head, where the focal point should be.

Yes, the sword is bent. Anyone who has tried to straighten one of these will know its virtually impossible :cussing:

Wow - that\'s a beauty :)

Love the muted colours. Only crit would be just a smidge more contrast in the black/grey of the uniform.

Nice one!

Wow! Great work James, definitely your best yet. I agree about the sword, but everything else is beautiful. The base is cool too. I really like the pale gas-mask, and the muted colours in general are superb.
