Hi, Sure this has been asked before, but I\'ve been searching and I couldn\'t find an answer.
How much are people charging to paint:
A) single mini, above tabletop standard, character/general type
B) large monster, i.e. belakor or dreadnought, above average table top.
c)units, i.e 20 fantasy chaos marauders. table top.

I do not have any awards,and have never even entered a demon, but paint better than your average joe. (or do I? see gallery), I\'m being bugged by a friend, and really have no idea what to quote him. Pls. help.
Ps, by the hour is not really an option, I paint slow, real slow (between beers.)

character general type giving it my all with elaborate base and what not. $50. normal base $35.

belakor or dreadnought with little conversion work and nice base between $60-$100.

depends on time to convert and what not.

i met a lawyer friend who has a bunch of prepped minis and all i do is give it my best paint job. so i charge him $20 to $30 depending on complexity of mini for the miniatures straight up. he has already based and assembled them so all i do is paint each of em\' up.

its really up to different speculation on what to charge. i know of some that pay a huge amount and others who get nothing. its all just specualtion i guess. hope it works out for ya. :)

From the point of a buyer i think i depends on the market, ie how well its done compared to whats out there. My advice would be get a figure in your head around what Uber\'s said then show Customer exaples of models you\'ve done and show them your ideas for the mini they want doing. Then you\'ve been honest of what you can do and open about ideas of what you want to do. Hope that helps :D

If your only doing this for your friend and you would actually like painting his stuff and you have the free time to do it then maybe you could do it cheap. :)

otherwise its trying to get a balance of price/painting standard/time taken. All of these factors have to be thought through otherwise someone will lose out...and more often than not that someone will be the painter.

If you are ever in doubt what to charge someone then break up the commission into segments. This way you can alter the price on the second part of the commission if you underpriced yourself in the previous one....if you do this then i would make it clear to the customer that your not sure what to charge (never painted type before) and that you might make a price change for further commissions of this type.

Truth is, not everyone will be willing to pay you enough to earn an okay hourly rate...unless your super fast whilst still retaining a decent standard.

I\'d say that more than half of potential customers never accept a quote...they just don\'t realize how long things take and think theres little monkeys painting all the work for you...for peanuts.

This question is often asked and really the only true answear is, how much is your time and skills worth to you? Kind of cheap i know, useing a question to answear a question but it\'s the best i can offer. But if your looking to see what others charge you can take a look at my gallery for my skill, pathetic as they are, and compare it to what i charge.

Single 20mm to 30mm: $20
Mounted Mini or 54mm: $35
Miniatures over 54mm: $40 -$80

(Min 5 figures for army price)
Armies: 20mm - 30mm: $20 for the first mini
$10 for each mini after
Armies: Mounted - 54mm: $30 for the first mini
$20 for each mini after

dude, just make sure the minis are prepped, put together and filed. That is lame-o work and you should get paid triple over time for it.

I typically charge about $250 for a GW army / megaforce-type box, with most figures in the box done at tabletop quality, the elite-type models done somewhat better and the HQ/hero models done higher quality yet.

For single models, typically $35 for very high quality (best I can manage with 12-15 hours or work) to as low as $3-5/model for rank and file tabletop. $15/model seems to be the most commonly chosen quality level for elite troops (quite a bit higher than tabletop, but not competition quality.)

I\'ve toyed with the idea of charging by the box type (warhammer basic plastic troop box, 12-20 models) at a standard rate, with higher model count boxes getting not quite the same quality level as the lower model count boxes.
