I finally managed to finish this commission.
My client bought 3 squads of Karskins from some mook on ebay who slathered them with so much black primer that 3 24 baths in Simple Green couldn't get rid of it all. They were also terribly ugly casts with a lot of slag, horrible mold lines and misaligned sections. Either they were purchased from a 3rd party company in China or they were made at 5:00 on a Friday. Needless to say that was an interesting start to this commission and I was worried about the quality I'd be able to produce, but I am pleased with how the turned out.
I airbrushed the armor first using a mixture of Tamiya and GW paints before basecoating everything else. That was followed by some Quick Shade Strong Tone. Once that dried I applied all of the highlights and did some final touchups on the armor before finishing up the detail work.
The basing was pretty easy to complete mainly because I pulled back on my original idea and did something simple but nice for gamining minis. I also decided to try out the tufts from Army Painter instead of applying static grass by hand. I really love those tufts- they're so easy to use! My only complaint is some of them are very large so I had to hunt around the sheet to find ones that were a good size for these bases- I only used tufts on a percentage of them. I hope the client will be pleased.
I also finally discovered that you can set the marguee parameters in Photoshop so it was much easier to put this montage together.
