Hey there, here's a commission I've really been looking forward to paint for quite a while - that Maelstrom Chimera that caused a lot of "ooh"s and "aah"s when it was released.

The model itself is nothing less than beautiful. It's incredibly detailled, not too over the top (if that's possible for chimeras), pretty natural in it's looks, has awesome fur textures and a very pretty box. The parts fit really nicely and while they require quite a lot of sawing, they didn't need any kind of bending.

Here are some early WIPs:

The Random GW minis are there mainly for scale purposes. I hope you like it so far. I'll post the next update soon so be sure to subscribe! ;) C&C welcome.

Whooohooohooohoo! What a nice mini. Since I ve seen the first pictures of it I am dreaming of painting this one on my own. Sadly it`s very expensive (but it will be worth the money!).

Let`s see what youe getting out of this. Have fun painting it.

@Brother Tom: Oh, it will take me at least a few weeks to paint that beast. ;) To be honet, this is the biggest resin model I ever worked with and it's unlike anything I ever painted before so I'm extra-respectful about it.

@GTherk: Cheers and: I'd love to clean my workstation more often but you know how it is: you never really have enough time to do that and you need all the stuff at hand anyway and it's very tidy, it's just my own kind of order and all that. ;)

@Sleipnir: It really is rather expensive but then, it's just incredibly pretty. ;) Really awesome stuff.

Update!

Today I reorganized some boxes of stuff and dusted off a shelf. Seeya!

P.S.: Here's some pictures of stuff too. :p

Absolutely love this model looking forward to seeing what you do with it a colour run down on the lion and dragon head bit would be cool too

Hi. Awesome work. I myself have also purchased this stunning model. After my Forgeworld Bloodthirster the Chimera is my next project. I love painting reds and was wondering what colour mixes you used if I may ask. And the wing membranes also. Cheers.

Hey, love the model. Ordered it just now with the Maelstrom 15% off coupon code.

Wondering, what colours did you use for the lion fur/skin?

Regards,

Sanjay

Little Update on the chimera:

Hope you like the piccies and the added red parts on the Chimaera. I originally thought of purple for that but I think red works better but please let me know if you think that purple would be more fitting. So basically C&C is welcome.

Lovely 'mini'! Wonderful textures to experiment on I'd bet. :D

Good work so far, see you're still mostly getting a colourscheme down. IMHO with a complex model like this it would pay off to keep the colour scheme fairly simple (apart from the local hue shifts and details), adding purple would be 'another colour' and colourschemes work best when limited to max 3 colours IMO.
Personally I'd paint the red of the dragon head a bit further up, so it blends into the body more instead of feeling 'tacked on'. Because it does stand out (other heads might love a little red in some places too, shadows, details, the mane could be reddish)

Great job so far! Looking forward to see you getting more shading down and light it up. :D

@TrystanGST: It's all a devious scheme to keep people from painting their armies so they hire commission painters like me to do the job for them. :D Just kidding. What are you working on currently?

@Grashnak: Thanks for the reply. This piece really is like nothing I've done before, mostly due to the textures you mentioned. Washes work a whole lot different on those. ;) Having the Dragon head blend into the neck a bit more is a thing I got on my to-do-list on this model, yeah. Would definately look better. Red shades, eh? Could get a little tricky but good suggestion; I'll look into that. First, I did the slashes and scars red for now to see to what extent it influences the overall balance. I'm considering giving the ends of the goat's horns a red hue kinda like on the wings (maybe making the black parts of the horns go down further a bit when doing that). What do you think?

Another little update on the Chimera:

Well after a 12 year hiatus, I've started reworking old and new marines into an Iron Lords army. But I can't stop buying non-related minis from here. I mean if you can paint a space marine or a Kingdom Death Forsaker, what are you going to do? Haha....

*edit* Oh - and the only thing cooler than that chimaera model is your paint job.
