Commonplace Strangers

I am becoming curious as to turnover on this site. Some of the more frequent members when I originally signed on are now irregulars or nevers. The site doesn\'t seem as exciting as even last year. With Becca running up to 1000 and somebody writing intoxicated posts, it seems quiet in comparison. Just wondering where everybody went. I haven\'t seen too many posts from Lurch, Steelcult, Chrispy, or even Finn. These guys were on all the time. Maybe it is just me, but most of the true Freaks seem pretty silent lately.

Is it a matter of life getting in the way?

Or perhaps there has been to much bitchin\' and not enough booze?

I see what you mean, but I think its part of the normal ebb and flow of the site.

Some freaks never leave...no matter how many hints they\'ve been given...
lol:rolleyes:

Yup - some of us just have limited computer access from time to time.

Normal turnaround, probably.. the synergistic effect of one crowd may not continue when memebers of that crowd bow out for a while to real life.

True freaks? ... that must be all of us who post, not just those who are inpossession of a key to the freak lounge.

And bitchin\' never stopped anyone from posting .... brushfires just drive the posting counts up!lollol

I for one like it when it is quieter, not so long back there was alot of tension and bad feeling between certain members. Or so it seemed to me. I like the quiet times when people are just talking about general stuff and not just chomping at the bit to try and have a go at each other. I only post these days when I feel I have something worthwhile to say otherwise I revert to lurking mode.

I sort of miss the friendly \'pub atmosphere\' that I experienced when I joined the forums. But I don\'t miss the infected climate that we had a while back, like Tim mentioned. I sort of miss Steve (Finn), but I can see how he would want a break from CMON as I have had one myself a while back.

The site is not as \"cozy\" as it once was... there are a lot of new members and some of those post on the forums (hi guys!). And some old members have other priorities that have come up. It\'s a pity but take heart... IMO the site is still \"happening\". There\'s always something new in the forums, the WIP thread gets posted to several times a day f\'rinstance :)

I also agree with tidoco.

The forums are in a better \"mood\" now they they were several months ago.

Many forum regulars aren\'t here now only because real life may shift their intersets elsewhere. Also, some just get burnt out and need a break. For a time I was posting like crazy over at FF\'s site, then I slowed down there and was posting a lot in here, and now that I\'ve finally freaked (they made me do it --> *pointing accusitory finger at RD and DFD) I\'ve slowed down again.
Some days I\'m just more taltative than others...

@ LP - You\'re one to talk!!
lol

A thought just came to me! What if Finn is actually painting minis, and that\'s why he don\'t post here that much!

used to be a Freak
Having been around for a few years...I agree with the others that the site has always ebbed and flowed this way. Many folks come and go as life leads them away and back. I know I\'ve had periods of time where I\'ve not been very active. Its nice to take a break once in a while.

Like the others have mentioned, I certainly don\'t miss the fighting that was going on around here last year. The atmosphere is much more friendly theses days. Some of the regulars will return, some won\'t. Lots of interesting \"NEW\" folks will show up and add thier contribuitions. This is still the best site on the net for our hobby / passion...:D

Cheers,
Grumb

Usually when I am in passive mode I at least pop in and stick my foot in my mouth every now and then. I recognize that Steelcult is out playing in the sandbox. It just strikes me as odd. Winter is usually the rowdy months and summer the slow ones. I have seen it before but this just feels a little different. I know I am not as familiar as I could be.

Until recently, my online time was curtailed to 1/2 an hour a day. I still come here everyday, but just dont have the need to post that I once had - plus, the chat room is drawing some of my attention from the forums.
