Just got my first few pots of Vallejo paint & tried them out last night.

Now I get it.

I was painting all my minis with *gulp* Ceramcoat before. Special thanks to all the CMON contributors that make it possible for me to wake up ignorant, but go to bed a little less so.

Hey, not as bad as the GW store guy who told me that after all the years he\'d been painting, he\'d finally realised you could add water to the paint to make it thinner!

I\'d give him the \'Donkey of the week\' award.

two years over here

I painted for 2 years before adding water. I never, ever would have considered adding it had I not gotten on this site.

Every now and then I get lazy and paint directly from the pot. Invariably I glop up a mini and cuss the roof off my house. You\'d think I\'d learn. I say I get the donkey award every time I do this.

Or, every time I carry my minis on top of a box to prime them, but don\'t tape them down. I can\'t tell you how many of my minis have tiny blades of grass embeded into the paint job. Hee Haw!

We have what\'s called a \'Wheelie bin\' which is a trash can on wheels. It\'s black plastic and about four & a half feet tall. It\'s great for priming mini\'s on. Except I keep on having to paint my house number back on the top \'cos some dummy keeps on priming it Black.:eek:lol

Oh good grief....

You can add water to the paints!??!?! No way..I just don\'t believe it :wow: Next you\'ll be telling me I can use KY on my models.....

Talking of which, I caught my cat Ziggy drinking from my painting water the other day. I wouldn\'t worry, but it had extender added to it - is there cause for concern? I did notice when he came inside after a downpour this morning that he took much longer to dry than usual........

On a more serious note...

I still use ceramcoat paints for scenery, and their black paint works pretty well on minis too. So don\'t get rid of your cheap paint Ovus!

King of the doofus\'

I have been painting unthinned since 1979.

I learned how to thin and use FFW for both paints and inks about a month ago (on this site) and have since sold or traded all my old minis and have basically restarted (except for my old Harlies)....

Waddya gunna do?

Yeah, i haven\'t been painting fer long, so I don\'t have any really idiotic habits. My laziness is a killer, though. I tend to change my water every two weeks (if I\'m feelin\' energetic) You can guess what it\'s like. After week one, it\'s a pleasant muddy brown, with a metallic sheen, inky gloss, and brush bristles floating languidly amongst lumps of paint. Every mini after I change the water becomes progressively more \"natural\"........ummm...brown. lol

My friend has the problem of forgeting to wahs the brush when he licks it. By the end of the day his lips and toungue are multicoloured!lol

This whole thread has got something of a watery theme running through it now. We\'ve got folks not using water, some using water, others not changing water, and as for Tooshy\'s extendable wet pussy, I\'m not even going to comment (other than that I\'ve now got a rather lurid image stuck in my mind that goes far beyond the original double entendre)!

Hey Nelson! Change that water. When I was a kid all my figures looked like they were wearing glitter due to all those metallic flecks getting mixed in with the paint. Now I change my water regularly, and always after I\'ve washed metallics out in it.

:D

Does anyone use ink to thin their paint?

I sometimes thin yellows and reds with the coresponding ink to maintain the depth of colour.
