Construction Time Again

Hi all. I hope you are all well! My next project is a steampunk fairy from Freebooter. I plan to make a very steampunk/industrial diorama for her to stand in. I am going to document this one from the start, so I can take any advice at an early stage. Here is the diorama as it is now :

I love those WHFB movement trays, so useful for diorama-construction. Also, I have lots of odds and ends that I am going to implement in this project to give it a really industrial look:

Oh, and here is the fairy for those that don\'t know what she looks like :

Thanks for watching! P.S. I just noticed that my digital camera lens is a bit dirty/dusty - are there any household-available items you would advise I clean the lens with ?

Canned air/dust spray usually works. If that doesn\'t do it, then get one of those cloths that you clean glasses with.

If you can get hold of any clockwork cogs etc that would really help put her in to the Steampunk style of things.

Thanks for that CreganTur, I will have a look araound and see what I can do. Dragonsreach, I am actually on the scout for some gears/cogs I really would like to put some in. I mean, its not steampunk without them lol! Thanks for the replies!

Just to throw in on the cogs, I recently took apart two faucet sprinkler timers that had broken. Had about 8 cogs on the small side, so if you\'ve got someone that has a broken one (or maybe a second hand shop), that\'s one place to find \'em.

Ok, thanks for that Pegazus, I am still on the hunt for gears ! My best bet is probably a hardware shop or like you said, a second hand shop. Lots of children\'s mechanical toys have gears in too I think, but I don\'t really know any kids lol.

There are also sellers on Ebay that sel cogs, bags of watch parts; stuff like that.

I\'ve also found that I can get good parts by accompanying my wife when she goes to Yard Sales; I buy old watches for a buck or two and then strip them down at home.

If you want something more immediate, I could look through my stuff and post a pic/description of what I can sell/trade.

Thanks

Excellent, that\'s great advice CreganTur. I am going to a jumble sale (I think the same as a yard sale pretty much) this sunday, so I might be able to grab something then. If my search is unsuccessful, it will be great to see what you might offer, that\'s very kind ! Cheers!

cheers

Thanks A Luna, just finished spraying the diorama now, it looks so much better when undercoated. I will post some more pics tomorrow, I kind of feel that I need to add some detail, to the area between the spring and broken gear, as the Fairy will stand just in front of the spring. I sculpted the floor section at the front as her base (which I want to keep her on because it has screws modelled on it ) was that style floor. Cheers all !

Thanks DragonScale, here is an update :

Still need to clean up my camera lens! lol. Any suggestions will be great ! I feel that I need to decide on a colour for the walls, not sure yet... Also, the girders along the walls need a colour. I was thinking maybe brass/bronze or silver ?
