no, not models but a tech question

i have a new 80gb ipod (got it cheap!) and i need to convert assorted movie files (avis, mpegs etc) into quicktime or ipod compatible format.

i also need to convert some assorted movie files into a dvd format

can anyone recommend anything that does the above? i don\'t mind having different programs for each one but just want something tried and tested. preferably free or cheap!!

iSquint is good for transferring almost any file type into iPod compatible. Though that may be Apple only.

Handbrake is fantastic for ripping DVD to the computer and automaically making them iPod compatible. Its take a good few hours, but its the bees knees.
Although that might also be Apple only.

Yep, iSquint is good. You can also use that to get movies from youtube:

1. Copy youtube (or for that matter any other site) url of the video you want to download, eg. http://youtube.com/watch?v=AO9dbmJ_2zU and paste into http://javimoya.com. Then download - it will appear as \"get_video\", rename it as [anyfilename].flv.

2. Go to http://www.isquint.com/ and download the program (it has quite a good sense of humour).

3. Drag your .flv file(s) into iSquint and convert; add them to iTunes, drag to your iPod, and you\'re done :D

*edit* iSquint is mac only. Quicktime Pro might work similarly, but it\'s much slower.
