Convertion of a High Marshal

This is my conversion in progress for a Black Templar High Marshal. I felt that the ordinary power armor didnt really represent Artificer Armor, so i decided to make use of some terminator bitz.

It is in only the pass 3-4 months that i started to see how fun it is to convert your models and its in the same time my painting have increased, but compared to allmost everyone on this site, im not even close.

But i would like ANY form of constructive comments, hints and tips on converting, painting etc, on what i can improve, especially on this guy. And oh, the arms, shoulders and storm shield was just put on with green stuff so i could see where i was going.

Cheers!

First off Welcome to the Forums!

People in here are pretty much totally insane but they don\'t bite and they often have scads of useful advice.

Looks pretty good. I don\'t really have enough knowledge of what this mini looked like before converting but I like the look of those plates on the thighs and the look of the sword/shield pose.

He looks taller then a normal marine, is he?

Thank you for a very fast reply, and thanks again for the welcoming :).

Yes he is slightly taller then a normal marine, like 1/3d of a centimeter perhaps, he is afterall a High Marshall/Chapter Master ;).

The legs are from the terminators, and i tried to cut away those pipes or whatever they are called to make them thinner, so it wouldnt look like a terminator, then the groin area and tubing above the belt are from a standard tactical marine chest, then above its a terminator chest.

Basicly its scratch built from all kinds of marine bitz.

if i were you i would add a loin cloth between the legs to just below the knee and put some long lenght purit seals on each side it would look cool and would hide the work you did adding the legs

you know that wouldnt be a bad idea :).. Did you use green stuff (or some other type of clay) to make yours?

EDIT: Hmm, i find it hard to use the green stuff since its too sticky, anything i can use to make it more handable and not stick to everything?

try using talc, stops it sticking to fingers and tools. also, lick tools or wipe your fingers on your nose, the grease will stop it sticking

This is how i ended up doing. Once the green stuff have hardened somewhat, ill sandpaper and clean it up abit, especially down in the right corner.

But any other pointers?

converions

i find milliput to be far better than greenstuff you can get a really thin look which comes in handy for cloth , the purity seals i also make from milliput roll out a thin sausage of the stuff flatten it then cut the edges with a craft knife wait for it to dry out for about half an hour then slide the craft knife gently under it using plenty of water place the ribbons together at the blunt unshaped end then apply the seal/rosery attach to mini and adjust for windage and flow, the loin cloth is done the same way try and get it as thin as possible then mold it to shape let it harden then use wet/dry fine sand paper to gently thin it out, then add ripples/folds in the cloth by puttin on thin strands of milliput and smothing them on with a tooth pic or something again plenty of water required then when its dry sand it again, if you dont want to do that all the time when you are happy with the result make a mold again milliput but use less of the hardner so its flexible then when you need the part again all you have to do is use the mold, n roberts your sisters brother.

purity seals

me again, the seals would look good were ive hung them at just below or on the belt the right one could then flow over the hip joint plate and down over the thigh n loin cloth. thats me finished, keep up the good work..

I will put this one on hold and wait for some forgeworld bits to arrive for this guy. Should be in the start of next week. Will keep posted on progress

EDIT: screw it, im gonna start painting some atleast :p

EDIT2: Ok, done some basecoat on him. See any errors or have some pointers? There will be some cleaning to do on some lines thats too thick, and my thought to the cloth and seals is to put some flesh wash on then put on some white to finish it up
