Coraline - CHA-CHING!

If you liked Nightmare Before Christmas you\'d probably like Coraline. It was simply charming, beautful, interesting. The 3D, for me, worked so so but it didn\'t really matter. Great flick. Might be a little too intense in parts for the wee one\'s though.

Niel Gaimans works usually are a little \'dark\', I\'d suggest reading Smoke and Mirrors, short stories but some real belters.

fantastic film, i saw with my son, we both loved it.... i personally think its better than nightmare before christmas. it was magical....the first movie to trump my all time favorite animated kids movie alladin.

I agree, \"Fragile things\" another collection of his short stories is also good, but darker then \"Smoke and Mirrors\"

you know the one i never liked and i will be chastised for it...like i was for hating firefly is neverwhere. the series and book. just cant get into that series. it seems like a poor mans weaveworld.

Neverwhere is Neil\'s first own book, and I agree that it isn\'t in the same league as most of his other work. I think, also, that the scope of the book is limited due to the fact that the story was going to be filmed with a fairly low budget.

That being said, I still like Neverwhere, and I think it\'s a cute story in a slightly grotesque sense.

I can definitely recommend The Graveyard Book, though. One of his most recent works.

I\'m not a hater, but I find most of Gaiman\'s work is very formulaic. I\'s a decent formula, but every novel of his I\'ve read is very creative in setting and such, but the plot is always carried out the same way.

If it\'s twisted you\'re after try Warren Ellis\' \"Crooked Little Vein\". Twisted with a capital \"F\".

Ritual; I\'m pretty sure that Neverwhere as a book was written a couple of years after the script for the TV series. If you can get hold of the Audio book read by Neil Gaiman himself it\'s a treat as he puts across the voice of Croup & Vandemar superbly.

Uberdark; I\'ve read several of Clive Barkers works and found them lacking in something.

That may very well be the case. I didn\'t know about the TV series until the book was published. I think the book was published simultaneously with the series being released on VHS (at the edition of the book that I have). The only other novel that he\'d done by that time, though, was Good Omens, which was co-written with Pratchett.

Has anyone seen Coriline yet?

3D seems - no, IS, making a huge comeback here in the states. It works to a certain extent but dosn\'t have that \'jump off the screen\' I remember when I was younger.
Got a good whack on the back of my head while seeing one way back with the blue and red glasses type. Guy in the movie turns around and shoots this fireball at the screen and I swear it was going to smash me in the face! I snapped my head back so hard I konked the back of the seat HARD!
The 3D in Coraline and Bolt works but just dosn\'t have the same \'pop\' the old stuff seems to have had.............why when I was a boy..........
