i\'d give swansea a miss personally but cardiff is great, as are the south and west wales coastlines

the locals get a bit weird when you move inland and up north though ime!

You need to get out more there is loads to do and see, Avoid Newport its a tip (I know this because I lived there for long enough) Cardiff as a city is great if you like that sort of thing and Swansea has its ups and downs but Wales as a whole has a lot to offer you just need to get off your butt and find it as we have hidden it from the English to stop them winging that it used to be theirs...

Ah Devon - the land of my heart Tis a lovely place indeed and as a typical \'local\' I\'ve not actually visited most of it. Mainly because during the time of year when the sun is out (when is that exactly ???) hordes of other people swarm here to do exactly the same thing.

This green and pleasant land is surely at its best late summer/early autumn - hoping for an Indian summer this year

Mind you, taking a walk on a wind swept beach is quite exhilarating - if a place is beautiful, it excels at any time of the year and in any weather

i\'d agree with rev wales is rural and an ideal place to retire and have a leisurely life but after living in tiny villages in north wales, port towns in west wales and industrial towns in south wales and living on the outskirts of london i definately found more in the way of arts, culture and nightlife in ands around london than i did in any part of wales the breathtaking scenery of wales has no comparisons in england but that\'s it really

There\'s plenty of culture but in oral tradition, landscape and language. You can\'t put that in a gallery .

Fair play though, you sound well travelled. What parts of Wales have you holed up in?

Can I just throw in some nice interesting places to live and work in outside of the cities:

Caerleon
Usk
Llanfyllin
Bala
Dolgellau
Beddgelert
Gower
Machynlleth
Lampeter
Aberystwyth

That list will mean sweet FA to most folk, but anyone who has had the pleasure of rolling up in those places for walking, mountain biking, holidaying, gigging, drinking or letching will agree that there are some interesting things to do out there. Mostly it\'s pub-related, but what can you do eh?

i\'m stuck in the shit hole that is merthyr tydfil thanks to the recession but hoping once my gf gets her new flat in brighton i\'ll be able to get a job there and relocate again

and those are truly nice parts of wales but still i\'d want something to do there besides stare at fields and paint my minis badly lol

3 Cliffs Bay
The Mumbles for for a bit of surfing if the waves are right
Swansea has the Dylan Thomas Museum as well as the Maritime Museum in the Mariner
Lots of castles in and around Wales and the Borders some of which are remote and worth a visit (i.e. the 3 castles up towards Monmouth)
A day out at the Big Pit is suposed to be good (I\'ve not done that yet)
LLanthony Priory
Llangorse Lake & rope centre where besides sailing you can try bouldering, climbing, caving and horse riding.
Brecon Beacons is full of caves if you look on the maps.
Then if you wander just off the boarder there is the Wye Valley and Forrest of Dean
St Fagans is good for people watching in the summer (and its free to get in)

Man, Merthyr is grim beyond grim. And yet no more than 10-15 mins away you can be in the Beacons. Not bad at all! But once again it has to be said that Merthyr is a shit-hole lol
