i\'m stuck in the shit hole that is merthyr tydfil thanks to the recession but hoping once my gf gets her new flat in brighton i\'ll be able to get a job there and relocate again

and those are truly nice parts of wales but still i\'d want something to do there besides stare at fields and paint my minis badly lol

Ooooh, nasty! I sympathise! The white sock capital of the UK lol

Man, Merthyr is grim beyond grim. And yet no more than 10-15 mins away you can be in the Beacons. Not bad at all! But once again it has to be said that Merthyr is a shit-hole lol

to all those thinking brighton can\'t be better than merthyr rev understands lol beacons aren\'t to far away and the brecon mountain railway is about a 30 minute walk from my house and cyfartha castle is right round the corner and being as i do battle re-enactment i\'ve been to pretty much every castle in the u.k. there are probably a few i haven\'t yet but really not many and to add to that list of welsh tourist spots you forgot

pembroke castle (i\'ve given a talk about medieval/dark age weaponry and armour there

castell coch
cosmeston medieval village
st fagans
dan yr ogof show caves
wakestock festival in pwllheli
big cheese festival in caerphilly (at caerphilly castle
caernarfon castle
cardiff castle
techniquest (is that still open?)
maritime museum cardiff
anywhere they film torchwood (including the old town hall in merthyr it was the exterior of the ballroom in the episode they travelled back to ww2 in )

but having been to the majority of those before i turned 10 there wasn\'t much left to do here after that where as brighton is just a 30-40 min train ride to london (about the same amount of time it takes for me to get to cardiff) and london has more museums, galleries, theatres, sights attractions, shows, clubs and events than you\'ll probably find in the whole of wales not to mention jobs something wales (definately merthyr) is lacking

as for the webbed feet i can\'t say i knew that but my mum and nan are both regularly going there for treatments for arthritis and the royal gwent in newport too

as for brighton having retired and gay people you find them everywhere and i\'m pretty sure there are some straight people under 65 there too atleast all the ones i\'ve met there have been apart from a few bi girls but again you find them everywhere

I\'ve just got back from 2 weeks in Cornwall... I love the place and would live there in a thrice!

We went to the Roseland - which is largely unspoilt but you need to be prepeared to drive a lot (unless you have a boat ;)) as it\'s a bit remote. However, it\'s utterly beautiful and less rugged than the coastline around Mousehole, St. Ives, The Lizard etc. I\'d highly recommend it - I\'d highly recommend Fowey too, which is another beautiful place.

I\'m hoping to get a week in or near to Oban in October too as well as a couple of random weekends in North Wales.

Ahhh! Holidays - they make the rest of the shite worthwhile! :D

Striding Edge on Helvellyn, Cumbria.
Yep I\'ve walked that, in winter. Scary.
Not exactly a comfortable walk in summer either.

Mike...The Polruan pic is actually Readymoney Cove on the opposite side of the River Fowey to Polruan (Fowey Side).... Also, the Win Hill pic looks a lot like Winnat\'s Pass at Castleton in Derbyshire... That\'s from memory as I haven\'t been there for a while... but I am a Derbyshire lad :D

Grew up in Cornwall - and call it \'home\' but not been back for a few years. Used to live in St Germans (very quaint old village) Liskeard (small market town with a bypass) and later my folks moved to Perranporth (seaside town near Newquay)

I was explaining the other day what it\'s like to live 30 miles from a cinema (at least one with more than 1 screen and showing something recent).

I\'ve lived in cities and I\'ve lived rural.

Spent 9 months recently living in Carmarthen in Wales - that\'s a 30min train ride to Swansea. Lovely countryside, really nice people.

Went to Cumbria for the first time in Dec - how beautiful is that place? I love big hills.

I really want to visit all the national parks in the UK - such amazing sites, I don\'t know why people go abroad so much, when there is so much to see at home.
