Counting soldiers

First, I need to make a statement: neither me or my husband consider ourselves miniature collectors.

Now.

Yesterday, I was looking through boxes, blisters and piles of miniatures we\'ve got at home trying to find a particular mini, and decided to count how many playable armies we\'ve got.

Eight.

3 WHFB
3 WH40K
2 Warmaster

Of course, not all of them are painted. Two are in a \"project\" phase. But still, the mere thought of posessing eight playable armies took my breath away. And I have no inner strenght to count and see how many \"independent\" miniatures we\'ve got!

Anyone else ever counted the military forces? :)

i don\'t game so thankfully i only have two \'forces\' that could count as armies. i have all my old high elf stuff and shed loads of chaos. everything else is just stuff where i like the mini (and there\'s a LOT of it!)

I don\'t think I have a single one! I\'ve never been focused enough to limit myself to one type of minis.

Well I only have one playable army, a empire WHFB army. Those are the first minis that I ever painted, back when GW was all, I knew and when I hadn\'t found CMON :p
As for other minis lying around I\'d guess I have about 30-40 of them. Wich is very reasonable compared to what some people here seem to have :p

Yup , neophites. I have 400 D&D type individual minis, then there my own 7 playbale armies- 5 40k, 2 WFB- so about 800 troopers there.
The armies are about 2/3 painted and the others 80% just hit the paint remover- they were done, but they sucked bad.
Been collecting for about 30 years though.

I\'ve got a space marine army by accident. Damn that ebay! All unpainted, just happen to have enough. Also got an Orc command and undead command....unpainted!

Eight sounds like a reasonable number for someone who games.
If I had the cash I might have that. I never got into the tabletop stuff, but I have an HE army in the works and enough non-GW others to field a Britonian army if I ever find an opponent.
See, if you were my neighbor I\'d love it. I could come game at your place as you already have enough armies to play different games and to have choices within those games. I say from a game perspective you have a perfect number.
(my wife might not like me spending so much time at your house, but that\'s a different matter ;) )

I play wargames instead of tabletop, and if you wanted to count the \"armies\" of little cardboard counters I\'d say I have, at a guess, 70. I\'ve got somewhere in the neighborhood of 25-30 games, and some of them have multiple armies (axis & allies has 5, Dune has 6 etc.)

Two.:D Vampire Counts and Space Marines. My two best friends, who also play, own 13 and 7, respectively, so I\'m the boring one in the party... :p
I\'m just not fond of throwing more money at gw before I get all my other stuff painted (idealist...)

Used to have more, but...

...finances made me get rid of a couple. Not too long ago I had: 5 40K armies, 2 Wargods armies and a couple thousand other minis.

Realizing I hadn\'t played 40K in anything for over a year, decided to get rid of a couple. A Saim-Hann eldar army I was starting (actually doing two of them), and an all-robed Black Templar army. That last one was HARD to get rid of, I tell you. But it was between that, my Sisters of Battle army or my already painted Eldar army. Can\'t get rid of the one and only army I\'ve painted, and I love the Sisters army too much to part with them, so....:(

Somebody got a really good deal on a robed Space Marine army! That still leaves me with the 2 Wargods armies, an Eldar Alaitoc (painted) army, a Sisters of Battle army (enough minis for two, actually), and a concept army for an Eldar Saim-Hann force that I\'ll never finish, either. Ugh.

Currently going through the \"I never get anything painted, I should just sell off all my stuff\" frame of mind.:|~

Might as well be. See, it\'s my husband who games (btw, one of our wip armies is also HE). But the thing is that not all of them are in gameable condition, and plus, I\'ve got tons (really ... ) of minis I intend to paint some day. Like I said before, the fact that both me and my husband are in the hobby gives us no brakes when it comes to buying minis.

two armies here...both 40k, tyranids and space marines...

also, 3 forces for playing Space hulk by the expanded rules, tyranid force, space marines force including 1. ed. terminators and rogue trader space marines in power armor, plus a budding genestealer cult force....

so that\'s five separate forces... not including a growing number of individual miniatures....

oh, my goodness, i\'ve become a collector!:(lollol

Just two; Tomb Kings and Dark Elves. Together, I\'m sure they\'re over 900 individual minis, and neither are completely painted. Likely to remain that way for a while, now that I\'ve found The Smelly Troll, who stocks most every manufacturer I\'m interested in.

And now with more buying than painting? Me thinks that is the definition of a collector.

I could probably muster 3....

....For WFB Empire and Dwarves and Space Marines in 40k.Although I am a collector, all be it a slow one,I\'ll collect any range that\'s aesthetically pleasing;)

I seem to have a Grey Knights and A Tau army. Got enough RT period marines for a small old school marine army too. Got enough old dwarves and bretonnians for two small armies there too (or a big allied force!). That\'s not counting my Confrontation warband (quite large I guess, though not as big as I\'d like).

Like margo though, most of my stuff is bare metal. Maybe I should flog it all on Ebay?!

UMM, I have 3 fully painted and 1 half painted army (I only count armies if they are painted as I only play if they are). However the 3 painted ones are at a very old standard, and I don\'t know if I\'ll ever get done with that half painted one (those darn witchhunters).

That doesn\'t seem like too much, although I haven\'t played more than 2 times in the last 2 years :(

Let\'s see...

For 40k:
  • Dark Angels (average size, couple of squads, Ravenwing bikes, speeders, dread)
  • Eldar (huge force with a little of everything plus a titan)
  • Tyranid (ever larger force, without titans)
  • Dark Eldar (average size, never won once)
  • Death Guard/Slaanesh force (dread, five or so squads w/ single slaanesh allies, plaguebearers)
  • A Space Ork \"battleforce\" (one big squad, a couple of vehicles, a gobsmasha, a stompa)

...and those are just my painted ones (like EricJ, I only count painted as \"playable\"). Probably can increase the size of all of those if I had the unpainted stuff finished.

I also have several Imperial Guard tanks, but I don\'t think they\'re playable as an army since I sold most of the troopers.

I have no playable Fantasy battle armies, though I do have a ton of skeletons so am probably closest to having a Vampire Counts or Tomb Kings army. Also have a smattering of goblins, but not enough to field anything.

Kind of ironic, actually, since I enjoy painting the fantasy stuff much more than the 40k stuff.

Playable armies? Well, let\'s see - not that much...

At first (and way the biggest army) comes my viridian army for VOID - 6000+ pts (2600 pts painted) and still growing.

Next is my viridian warband for Urban War.

If BloodBowl teams do count then there is my norse team.

If I will ever play again I have a good sized army of celts for Confrontation too.
