Cow hooves

Now, one or two of you may have seen in another thread that I am painting a skeleton minotaur. Being an inner city kind of girl, domestic livestock isn\'t my forte, so I\'m looking for advice. Should the hooves on a cow/minotaur be brown/black? If so, should the horns be that colour or remain a natural horn colour? (Whatever that is!). Any suggestions for colours etc. would be gratefully appreciated.

Hmm, being a simple country boy myself, all I can say is that there are almost as many colors of hoof as ther are colors of cow/sheep/horse/insert generic hooved mammal here. Brown or black are usually a good default color for hooves, and you can get away with a semi glossy look to them (they are basically giant toe nails) As for a dead critter, I would go with a flat look to them, since they are not being renewed.

the hoofs have it.....

Having been around cattle, the hoof color is kind of decided by the color of the animals legs..black hide-black to very dark gray hoofs. Light brown or tan hide- gray to grey brown or sandy brown hoofs, white or cream hide- pink to sandy pink hoofs.
If the leg color is part white and any other color the area of hoof next to the white hide is light color and the dark part will have a dark color streak running from the cornet band to the bottom of the claw.
But as you are painting a skeleton minotaur I would think the shell of the hoof would be gone and only bone would be left. Any who, hope this helps.

Thats very helpful guys Is this the same for the horns as for the hooves?

Generally - although, I have seen orange cattle with grey horns (longhorns), and brown bison with black horns.
