My first try with Vallejo crackle medium got me some surprisingly good results.
I mixed it with the top layer color and painted it over the shade (blood red & red gore & crackle medium over black undercoat) and let it to dry and the top layer crackled just fine.
I must still try the dose of medium (1 part per 4 parts color for starters), but for the first try it was pretty OK.
