Crappy sculpts, fantastic sculpts

I think the Krootox are very poorly casted, dunno about sculpted. Have you noticed they are covered in this \'coral texture\'? Bad. I like the Kroot Plastics, Shaper and Hounds.

Definately lurve the Knarlocs, spensive but very nicely executed.

Hi.
I just got my hands on the plastic S M scout snipers from GW, and they\'re awful, really poor quality stuff, not a patch on the metal versions. luckily for me I got them cheap over Ebay, otherwise I would be ticked off.
Thought it might be an idea to share thoughts on any particulary bad, or particularly good sculpts we\'ve seen, especially as mini\'s aren\'t getting any cheaper.:cussing:

hasslefree minis kick ass
rackham are cool
ilyad are cool

in fact there are loads of companies that produce fantastic sculpts.

one of the things that does happen tho is companies become succesfull and then get larger and lazy. they then sit back and live off there reputation. not realy accepting that they are slowly getting overtaken by other companies.

it has happenend to quite a few mini companies and is continuing with others.

good point chief.......GW get a lot of stick with people saying the same thing with them but a lot of people fail to realise they produce models for gaming armies on a large scale. They seem to be looking more seriously at the collector\'s market and I\'m very excited about some of the things they\'re working on (the john Blanche minis..The Gotrek and Felix set..hopefully more will follow and they will rewin the hearts of some who have deserted them...

A few other crap sculpts again GW.....(all the black library diorama pieces they did...) More frustrating than anything that such a promising concept brought pretty lazy assed sub standard crap.

some more of the recent rackham stuff I like....

pixie tricksters.

shurat

cool.

i find the lotr range one of the best ranges gw do. hit or miss with the mold lines tho, it\'s either virtualy nothing to clean up or you may as well bin it.

I have just finished painting the ltd edition goblin fanatic vignette released for the new edition of washammer and it sucks arse. The worst sculpt I have ever painted , mouldlines across faces and unhideable seams.

I agree the Gotrek range is awesome, and if I am a good boy then santa is getting me the whole diorama for christmas.

The John Blanche range look awesome, but for £20 a piece they want to!!!

20 pounds for a single piece is just too much, They\'re nice but I refuse to pay it.
Werners stuff over at freebooter is normally done to a very high quality but I also find it quite pricey.
As all ready said, Hasselfree rocks, his sculpts are great, the casting\'s done to a high standard, and they\'re nice people to deal with.
Haven\'t had any experience with rackam. but a got my hands on some reaper stuff through a UK comppany called minifigs who seem to have the license. the sculpts vary depending on who\'s done them obviously, but I also found there was alot of difference in the standard of the castings. Of note were the metal warlord bases that were all miscast. But again, mini figs are good people to deal with and very fast.
I want to check out the heresy stuff, as the guys also a pleasure to deal with, his demons look great, what are they like to put together?
Finally, check out the corvus belli stuff if you haven\'t already, they\'ve got some nice samurai and futuristic stuff. I\'ve only bought a couple, but they were nicley cast with good crisp detail.

Where can I find info on these john blanche minis? I want to get some, any chance for a link?

I am really starting to like the LoTR stuff, they seem to be much better sculpts and poses then they were when they were first realesed.

Dark Eldar, spring to mind when I think crappy minis.

But I can\'t really complain. There are just to many minis out there these days, some are bad, and some are good.

Imperial guard cadian plastic shook troops, great I love em:D

Scrap ones, any mini that is sculpted on one line, so theres no shape to it, I really hate that, hope I\'ve explained myself so you can understand :moon:

Brushlicker and Freak!
I like the LOTR stuff, actually reasonably scaled. Can be a pain to paint though...

So whats wrong with the plastic scouts?

The heads are pretty weak compared to everything else in the Marines range... I hate plastic heads with short hair, they never look good, and the jawline can use some good trimming with an xacto knife. I still like them though, they won\'t replace the old metals in my heart, but they might in my armies due to added variety. There simply weren\'t enough poses for any weapon except pistol/sword.

Anyhoo... 98% of the new Wood Elves are totally amazing. Same goes for the Imperial Guard, love the new stuff they did there. The new Eldar look incredible too, I must say. Surprised no one else has commented on them!

Really the only things I haven\'t been too keen on lately are some of the Dwarf heroes (how some can be so good and others so bad is beyond me), some of the LoTR stuff (it\'s getting better tho if you ask me) and I gotta say the newer Tau stuff was pretty hit or miss as well. Vespids were a cool design, but the sculpts look 15 years old with those 2D poses. Sometimes I think GW designers are afraid of multipart models.

hmmm... crappy sculpts...

The new LOTR wood elves arent the best.. almost no detail but cloth on them...

Good sculpts: Im pretty happy with anything Werner Klocke (Spelling..?) Do, and also, Hasslefree miniatures! They rock! Just got 4 of \'em for my home made zombie game (Need pics. and refining of rules, and you WILL be plagued with them!)

A joy to paint (^^)

Well as stated, their jaws were kinda desperate dan like, (if you don\'t know who he is read stupidly over sized.) But my main gripe was the lack of definition, and the extremely limited options that the kit gives. One of the best things about plastics for me has always been the variety of poses they offer, with the plastic scouts, not alot can be done without sawing and getting the GS out the freezer.
While we\'re on the subject, I was disappointed by the lack of definition on the latest plastic terminators. While on the whole the kit is alot of fun and pretty crisp, there are parts of the legs where it looks like they couldn\'t be bothered to finish the sculpt. for the price these things should be perfect...
The new Eldar wraithlord over in DR\'s wip thread looks great, very smooth, I\'ve seen a couple of photos of the new warwalker and it looks to have the same high quality. What I didn\'t like was the way the walker appears to be standing, something odd about the way the feet meet the base, hmmmmmm
After thought: the plastic guardians are a good buy, lots of possibilities and nice details.

I have one word that sums up good mini\'s.....
REAPER. At the moment they are the best, taking in freelance greens from around the world they are able to pick and choose from hundreds of greens, while other companies must rely on poor sculptors who are chained to a table and force fed concept ideas for the minis, and are left little to the imaginataion.
