Creating \'solid\' water for model bases.

Right I\'m in the process of experimenting with creating water for a models base, and picked up some \'Heavy Transparent Gel\' that\'s an extra dense acrylic resin, that dries clear (like water) it can be used to make water/ice for dioramas and the likes.

Now what i want to do is use it to create a dirty yet still slightly transparent swamp like water.

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how i could achieve this?

Ive done a couple of tests with adding some inks, but the resulting colours were just far to dense.

If anyone can help then that would be great!

Cheers

depends on the actual product some just wo\'t take colour ...

If you are adding colour tmiya clear colours are great but you only need a tiny amount in any clear resin to tint it.. literally use a piece of wire or something to add it ... I generally straighten out a paperclip and dip the end in the tamiya and that\'s it even for fairly large quantities.

Well its called Gel Denso, and its a Vallejo product. Ive had one promising trial using a small amount of GW\'s new in wash Devlan Mud, so I\'m now trying a second test of using only a small amount but this time with Ogryne Flesh instead. I shall have to let you guys know how it turns out.

for swamp water add a tiny amount of gw\'s green and blue ink (and i mean a tiny amount)
when people look down into it it looks a lot murkier because of the browns within the groundwork (done before adding tha water obviously)

when viewed side on the water still has a murky apearance but is slightly clearer and objects within the water are easily visible.

your basicly using the water as a filter to change how the colours apear within the water.

Wow, there\'s NO FREAKING WAY I\'d risk pouring resin over a completed mini. I\'ve seen what can go horribly awry here recently, and the result is weeks of work down the tubes in a bubbly, off-tinted disaster. Anyone who can get it to work reliably has my respect but probably never my imitation.

use a clear container for mixing it mate, you can sea what it will look like then :D

and as for sealing the base when doing it, just use masking tape (got that simple yet genius technique from Jeremies dvd)

water effects are easy, painting like Allan Carrasco is the damned hard part.
(that should be on a fortune cooky lol )

PS: ignore my negative-nelly post above, everyone... Being a molecular biologist I guess I just assume that anything involving a chemical reaction will probably fail at whatever time will cause the most destruction, waste, and grief :(

Well I\'m mixing up small testers in a little glass pot for the moment until i get the right looking effect.

But you guys are helping a lot, with ideas and techniques.

As for Gw inks, they\'ve stopped making them now (which I\'m rather pissed about) so the only way for me to get hold of them is to buy the mega paint set, and i don\'t have the money to falk out like £120 :~( So I\'m having to make do with their (personally rather crap) new \'wash\' range.

i can understand your thinking mate, expect the worst and you wont be dissapointed.
resin isn\'t tricky once you get used to it.
buy jeremies dvd mate, you will see how easy it is (demon herald passed on tips to me some time ago and jeremies dvd taught me some new things with regards to resin as well)
