I got in a commission recently to do a few Space Wolf units: a scout squad, long fangs, and blood claws. My client did all of the assembly and conversion on his own, I just had to clean up a couple of mold lines and give them a bath in Simple Green to clean off some primer spray he had used.

I decided to start out with the scout squad, since they were the smallest unit:

I just finished my proof of concept piece for the group and got approval on it earlier this morning. He needs a little bit of cleanup, but other than that is ready for the Dragon Forge Slate Wasteland bases the client picked out. The rest of the scouts will look similiar- hair color will be one of the biggest differences between them.

Well if the customer approved it, things are good :good:

That sword looks like nice neat effective metallics, good work.

If you've time at the end, a couple of little touches like popping a fancy lens on the upturned scope or weathering around the gun barrel end & vents would be nice.

Are you having to paint/transfer iconography onto them?

I hope the whole commission thing works out for you, cheers, B.

Got any tips on painting the scope? I've tried a couple different things and nothing looked good.

I've got water trasnfers, but luckly I also have the Sil and Sol solutions, so they'll look good when they're put on ;)

Ok, stupid question. What's going on with the chin area on this guy, he's got a mustache, lips, beard, and then a high lip on his gorret (neck armor), and then another beard hanging between the tips of his mustache?!?:confused:

Am I missing something?

Two weeks of furious work have gotten me this far on the scout pack:

I'm nearly done- the only big thing left is I have to put the pack emblem on the right shoulder pad. I'll be able to give them a full day to sit around and cure while I finish up the bases. Luckly they're snow bases, so I'm going to cheat a little and only paint what I know will be showing through the snow. After all of this detail work, I need something kind of easy.

All joking aside, very nice job. You metallics look really nice :)

Well, they're completely done except for a couple coats of varnish. I'm holding off on that until after the client aprroves. Basing these guys was a lot of fun... up to the point that one of the guy's ankles snapped completely off! Luckly it was a very clean break, so a little superglue had him battle ready again in no time.

I finally figured out how to paint a decent looking scope. The emblems are water transfers- they're not showing up well because of glare. They do have a bit of weathering to them, which is why a couple of the wolf head pack emblems are missing an ear ;)

The pics are a tad darker than I like, but it took me an hour (seriously) of taking pics using different light sources and angles to get pics that are this good. *sigh* I need a real light tent and a better camera.

The grey armor was actually done using a number of different colors and glazes, but I can detail the process for you. Mind you, this is what I did for the armor- the cloth (pants and sleeves) was done with a different technique:
-use Black primer
-basecoat the mini with Shadow Grey
-drybrush Codex Grey over the entire mini- may take a couple of repetitions
-mark highest points on armor with Fortress Grey
-glaze Fortress Grey, drawing the brush toward the highlighted points- repete until you get smooth transitions
-mark extreme highlights with Space Wolves Grey
-glaze Space Wolves Grey to smooth out color transitions
-glaze Skull White over the most reflective areas to create extreme extreme highlights- you may need to mark them with a point of pure skull white
-glaze Shadow Grey over the shadowed sections of the minis- use repetitions to build up darkest tones

Thank you for the step by step instructions! After I get my truescale fellas finished up I'm definitely going to give it a go. I like the look of the grey a lot better than the straight shadow grey with space wolf grey highlights. Really good work always has many steps! I still shiver over the number of steps I used on my Howling Griffons! :)

It's time for another update! I'm finishing up the Blood Claws squad currently. These progress pics are a couple days old... I hope to have these guys completely finished in the next few days.
