So... do you need help making them or painting them?

For making them there are quite a few options. I think one of the easier ones would be to grab a chunk of modelling putty (green, brown, fimo, sculpy whatever you got) wait till it cures (or cook it) and then carve the crystal out of it. Of course you could sculpt them from the blob using your sculpting tools making all the angles and flat that way but it\'d be more difficult. I\'m sure there are other ways to do it too. As for painting. I really can\'t help with that part. I\'d say just take the standard gem technique and experiment. Look in the articles section as well, as there may very well bewhat you need in there (for painting them gems I think there is a good one for the type you want).

The prob is making things, not painting (that pain will come later).
The prob is the shape of the thing.
I remember an article (maybe on the GW website) that explained how to carve them from pink foam. But I suspect it doesn\'t exist anymnore.

I will try with green stuff.THX

Why don\'t you just get bits of plastic sprue and whittle chunks off? I bet you have some lying around to practice on

Likewise, Plastruct and other manufacturers of stock styrene shapes produce hex-rod. Simply cut and glue into the base.

Something I thought of was making a greenstuff mould around a quartz crystal, and then using one of the various water effect substances as the medium (I know woodland scenics makes some for model trains).

im fairly sure that you can find that article in the archived issues of the black gobbo ezine. basically it comes down to making angular cuts, semi-symmetrically, in pink foam, with a hot wire.

I have purchased cheap crystals/rock specimens at a local hobby store. $3 to $5 US. Just prime and paint. Unless you like building them from odds and ends.

A technique similar to the one used for this could work.

Make a mold for your crystal. Pour in clear/tinted resin, before the resin sets push the skull into it -or- fill mold partially, add skull, fill more.

Hmm... sure are a lot more gelatinous cubes than I remember...

Where do I get clear resin, and thanks. Best of luck to you on your projects!

RSB, you get clear resin from Hobby Lobby, Michales, Pearls, or any other arts & crafts supply store. It is casting resin.

clear polyester resin (fiberglass). smelly stuff, mix resin with a bit of catylist. More cat = faster cure BUT too fast = too much heat and cracked product.

Sarge\'s footlocker (when he had the site up) had some 1\" round bases with green transparent crystals cast with them. If you are interested, I can get you in touch with him and see if he has any left.

Thank ya kindly. I\'ll get more info on this myself so no one has to waste their time.
