Custom Equipment Cards

Hi Folks,

There has been some discussion about custom Equipment Cards on the Custom Characters thread. I figured I'd take this opportunity to create a new thread for those cards which are not characters/survivors.

To wit, I had offered up a sheet of new equipment cards that I had created.

NOTE: I updated the file to allow the Sledge Hammer to open doors.

I took a look at Rolands Propain Tank and have some comments/suggested wording changes.

First, the gas is actually "Propane". If Pro-PAIN is done as a pun, I applaud. But I would still fix it. :)

Second, the text is a bit confusing to me. How would this be?

"Once placed, any Survivor may shoot the LNG tank with any Gun. Normal target priority rules are used unless using Sniper, or if the Survivor rolls a 6, in which case the LNG tank is hit. When hit it explodes with the effects of a Molotov."

Might be too wordy, but I'll see later how/if it fits on a card. I love the concept. I need a little plastic propane tank now to put out...

it was a pun, i have a couple more cards some with stats and some with none. If there is spelling errors this time it is not on purpose. I would love your input for the damage and range. Also the Minichainsaw and Machine Pistol are duel wield. I dont have the symbols for them. If you do can i Have them.

hey do you want me to post any cards i find here or just the ones i made. I wish guillotine games would put this stuff in the game section of their website

I'll make you a couple of dual wield symbols if you can't make them yourself.

In photoshop, or any other bitmap/paint program, I would open a copy of the image file of the object. Then select it (essentially get the outline of the object), fill it with white. Rotate it until you're happy with the angle (remember you're going to cross two of them!). Copy, paste, and then flip on X axis. Move to align with the original until you like it. Create a layer with a big red circle (big enough to fit your white items). Put the white crossed items in the circle, shrink to fit on the card, save. :)

Here are my suggestions for your cards (values and such).

Acoustic Guitar -
Range: 0, Dice: 1, Accuracy: 6, Damage: 1
Special: If a successful hit is scored against a zombie, make 1 Noise and discard the broken guitar

Electric Guitar -
Range: 0, Dice: 1, Accuracy: 6, Damage: 1
Special: If a successful hit is scored against a zombie, make 1 Noise

Thoughts on this. First, if a gun makes 1 noise, I don't think I can see a guitar making 2. The electric guitar maybe, but you would also need an amp and some speakers....

I figured that it's kind of classic for the acoustic guitar to get shattered when it smacks something.

In both cases, I don't see them being any better than frying pans - just kind of more fun. :)

Machine Pistol (dual wield)
Range: 0-1, Dice: 2, Accuracy: 6, Damage: 1
Special: Laser optics provide Sniper with this weapon

Thoughts. Range won't be any better than with a normal pistol. rate of fire is high, but they usually don't have anywhere near the magazine capacity of an SMG. Accuracy with machine pistols is insanely bad. Spray and pray applies. Still, fun to have.

Mini-Chainsaw (dual wield)
Range: 0, Dice: 3, Accuracy: 5+, Damage: 1

I kept the dice lower individually than the normal chainsaw because this is much smaller with a lighter (faster, but shorter) blade. When dual wielded it's 1 die better than a single chainsaw. Could consider upping dice to 4... Accuracy is going to be no better than a normal chainsaw, but damage will be lower. Still great for clearing walkers!

Skateboard
Range: 0, Dice: 1, Accuracy: 6, Damage: 1
Special: When In Hand, provides 1 Free Move action with Slippery

Since you can both move AND attack with it, it's way too good. Make it a frying pan with a small edge. The free move action gives the Survivor a small boost in speed, and with Slippery for that move, gives him a "skate clear" option. :)

Bike (would not bother defining as 10 speed)
+1 Zone per Move Action on Streets (does not combine with other Skills that provide extra Zones per Move Action). Cannot be used in Buildings.

I don't think I'd give it Slippery or the multiple-slot limitations. Providing faster movement is likely enough. I put in the "doesn't stack" clause 'cause it makes little sense to go even faster if you have a bike and roller skates...


Again, these are just for your consideration. I think that some of these would be fun.

The only thing I wonder is whether the sledgehammer is more likely to bust open a door than the pickaxe ? I think a few well placed swings might take a door down quicker than chipping away ?

the guitars you would be able to use them like the blow horn other people made but it is also a weapon. Maybe it can make plus 1 to using loud action

Hi Roland,

Again, my suggestions were only suggestions. I don't think that an acoustic guitar has anywhere near the noise impact that an airhorn or megaphone does, but that's just me.

I generally either draw the images myself or grab a common image from the web, turn it into a transparent gif to nuke the background, and then make any additional adjustments I want using either photoshop or illustrator, or both.

As to the sledge hammer on my cards, yeah, I agree. I'll add "opens doors and makes noise" to the card and will update it on the download site. Good call.

Hi again,

I really like the Loud Speaker. The only thing that I would change is the die roll for work/fail. Z'cide works on a "high rolls are better" model, and they also tend to use the N+ notations. I would rephrase the loudspeaker to,

When used, the Survivor must roll a 3+ on 1 die or it produces no Noise this Action.

Lovely concept though. :)

I just looked at the Grappl'n Hook card. I'm not sure I understand what it does.

Also, I updated my cards file (see first post) to let the Sledge Hammer open doors.

Was wondering if anyone with some talent could make me up some weapon cards for the following:

AA 12 automatic shotgun
Grenade ammo Drum [anti personal]
Armour piercing ammo Drum [eg Fatties killers]
Incendiary ammo Drum [eg Molotov cocktails]
Normal ammo Drum.

Also Judge Dredds Lawgiver

Hi GreyWolf,

I've created an AA 12 card along with a Lawgiver card (based on the Mk II). I haven't made the drum cards yet... want to take a shot at telling how you want them to work? Does it cost actions to swap drums? What does the basic ammo drum do differently than just having the AA 12? And what kind of stats do you want for the lawgiver?
